Ride going to Dorney!!
2012 - Invertigo - Rumor - (1/29/11) In case you missed the rumor from California’s Great America, it has been confirmed that their Invertigo coaster will be removed in the next few weeks to be sent to another Cedar Fair park. The early rumor, even before the removal was confirmed, was that it was going to Dorney Park for the 2012 season. This would make Dorney Park the only park in the country (world maybe too) to have 3 true Inverted coasters. (No, I’m not counting Suspended or Flying coasters) Stay tuned!
NewsPlusNotes Reported:
Invertigo Moving To Dorney Park? Apparently.
I don't really go after rumors much here on NewsPlusNotes, mostly because there are sites out there that do it better than I ever could. Case in point, soon after the news broke that California's Great America was removing Invertigo, Screamscape posted a rumor that Dorney Park would be the 'lucky' recipient.
But since Dorney Park is my home park and just a few miles from where I type this, my ears naturally perked up at the rumor.
As for that rumor part, well, I'm here to spread it I guess. I've been told that the ride is indeed coming to Dorney Park, and will reside in the former home of Laser. Apparently the park is already making moves to get ready for its arrival, which will be sooner than later.

A spot is already cleared, how nice
How much sooner? Well that's where things get really surprising - I was told that the plan is to open Invertigo at Dorney Park in summer 2011, not summer 2012. Yes, the rumor is that a rush job of massive proportions will take place to have the ride up and running by June of this summer.
I can't speak as to why this is happening, that is if what I'm hearing is indeed true. To move a ride so late in the off-season is just odd - and will this affect any plans the park had for 2012?
As for the ride's location, Laser sat on the edge of a 100 year flood plain, which made gaining approval for it back in 1986 tricky at best. Quickly looking back at old newspaper articles Dorney had to have several planning meetings in order to build Laser as well as the nearby picnic groves and restrooms, and didn't get approval until March.

Also from Vekoma's website, but this is the ride at CGA
That ride was portable but Invertigo will require permanent foundations. It is yet to be seen if a new debate will arise over the flood plain, or if those problems will not be repeated. I do know that nothing has appeared on South Whitehall Township's planning commission agendas, but the one for February's meeting is not yet posted.
Invertigo opened at California's Great America in 1998. It is one of three operating Vekoma inverted-boomerang designs; the others are at Kings Island in Ohio and Sommerland Syd in Denmark. A fourth ride operated at Six Flags America but has since been removed and not relocated.
The coaster stands 132 feet tall, has 1,014 feet of track, and the trains hit 50 miles per hour. The trains have riders sit face-to-face as they traverse the track both forwards and backwards through three inversions.
Invertigo would be Dorney Park's third recent transplanted attraction following Possessed from Geauga Lake in 2008 and Demon Drop in 2010 from Cedar Point. The last new ride added to the park was Hydra in 2005. Invertigo would also be the park's third inverted coaster along with Possessed and Talon, and the second shuttle ride as well.

If it's true then I think that yes CGA will be cut this year or next. Did CGA even get any additions this year?
For 2011, Great America plans to add two new shows – the "Boot Scootin' Boogie" country revue and the "Don't Stop the Music" dance program.

No, but what I can see the park do is try to add a major addition, and if the city denies it, then they'll pack their bags, pull what they want and leave in a mad dash.

Yeah, CGA is pretty much gone now.

The only thing bad that I see about this going in to Dorney is the fact that it is another Slow Loading ride. They already have one slow loading and adding another may draw a crowd, but will make for long lines.

Having been to Dorney multiple times Matt, they never have long lines there even in peak of summer.

Seems like this would be a good ride to add capacity and at least reduce lines at other rides.
It's semi-confirm!!
Dorney Park lining up more thrills
Company won't identify new ride, but that hasn't stopped the speculating.
Mum's the word on a new ride slated to join Dorney Park's lineup of belly-dropping, giggle-inducing thrillers, and park representatives say enthusiasts will have to wait until summer 2012 to try it out.
Dorney Park's parent corporation, Cedar Fair L.P., submitted a plan to South Whitehall Township for a new 138-foot-high amusement ride. But the plan doesn't mention what kind of a ride it is, and the park's general manager, Jason McClure, said his lips are sealed.
"We are keeping our focus on 2011 and all the new things we have in store with Planet Snoopy," McClure said.
The park's opening day will reveal the results of an $8 million top-to-bottom makeover of 10-year-old Camp Snoopy, the 3.5-acre children's area named after the too-cool beagle from Charles Schulz's "Peanuts" comic strip. The renovation will bring six new rides, an amphitheater, a souvenir store and a "soda pop shop" featuring root beer floats.
Dorney representatives will take questions about the proposed 2012 addition from the South Whitehall Planning Commission on Feb. 17, but even that won't demystify the new ride.
"The Planning Commission can ask us a variety of questions… but it's premature to get into a lot of detail," McClure said.
That hasn't stopped people from speculating that the incoming ride will be a coaster from California's Great America called Invertigo. The coaster happens to be 138 feet tall and is being relocated to another park within Cedar Fair's amusement park empire, according to a Great America news release issued last week.
Invertigo takes riders sitting face to face up a 138-foot-tall tower, then on several loops and twists both forward and backward through three inversions.
The rumor of the swap surfaced last week on a theme-park fan site called Screamscape.com, but Dorney spokesman Chuck Hutchison said the rumors are just that — rumors.
Invertigo reopened in July almost a year after a mechanical failure left two dozen people trapped 80 feet in the air for at least three hours, according to CNN. All of the trapped riders were rescued and no one was injured.
Under Dorney's proposal for a new ride, several kiddie rides would be removed, as well as a basketball game, concrete midways and a portion of a paved service drive, affecting about 1.7 acres of the 187-acre property zoned as commercial recreation.
Three Dorney rides are listed for sale on Ital International LLC, which dubs itself as the amusement industry's most comprehensive new and used ride brokerage source. The Antique Cars and Dune Buggy rides are both listed for $18,000, and the Kiddie Merry-Go-Round is listed for $25,000.
The ride is slated for the western portion of the park, just north of Lincoln Avenue and Dorney Park Road and south of the mammoth Steel Force coaster, where the old Laser coaster used to be.
The Laser was removed in 2008 after 22 years of double-loop thrills. The portable coaster, anchored by tanks of water, was originally named Colossus.
The site of the new ride, where Laser stood, is on the edge of a 100-year flood plain. The location caused heated debate at the township level when Dorney sought approval for Laser. It was eventually approved with a host of conditions attached.
If Invertigo greets fans in 2012, it would be the park's third inverted coaster, making Dorney Park the only amusement park in the country to have three true inverted coasters, according to a post on Screamscape.com.
McClure said the park will release more information on the ride this summer.

I thin the invertigo could do well at Dorney. The park from what I have heard is a bit sort of free space for a compact coaster like this is what they need to consider.
It should also give then time to plan out a larger addition that is a bit more thought out.

I think this is a nice ride for a park like Dorney. Although, I wish it was not another invert. Three inverted coasters seems like overkill.

Do three wooden coasters in a park seem like overkill? I mean, sure they're the only park with three inverts, but they do at least offer a very different ride experience between each. I would much rather have it be an Invertigo than a standard sitdown boomerang.

Or worse and SLC like SFI did with LA Ronda.

I wonder how much longer Dorney will keep getting all the reject rides from the rest of Cedar Fair...

Sit back and find yourself dangling from the scorpion tail seated face-to-face with your friends as you each sit witness to the others terror. Colors are great. Though not digging the fabric walkway covers. A gazebo style cover would have looked better.

^I agree. I don't feel like the green goes very well with the teal.
Well I didn't notice the trains until I posted the pictures! But I hope they repaint it but that is what I said about the blue track gross... But I guess the green will just have to grow onto me!
