Today, Screamscape reported that there is a rumor that Splashwater Kingdom may be transformed into Hurricane Harbor with an expansion in 2010 or 2011.
First, who are these sources he keeps talking about?
Second, what would be the purpose of spending money on renaming and retheming a water park? It sounds like over-hyping a new water slide to me.
Third, could this somehow use the Northwest Territory and this be the end of Twisted Twins and MHF?
This will be in the rumor section until we see more evidence for this.

This is so stupid on many levels. They just rethemed the waterpark from hurricane bay 2 years ago. Second, the park needs more rides, the water park is already gigantic and could easily spend the day there. Third spending money to refurbish a entire waterpark that they just refurbished 2 years ago makes no sense at all.

Anytime Six Flags re-themes their water parks, it seems like a total waste of money. They did it to several of the parks in 2006, and it was just a way of over-hyping 1-3 new slides.

Is there really any difference. They are themed, owned, and constructed the same way. I see the difference with Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon (2 totally different themed water parks and have completly different slides)

the retheme? yea big difference. When they did it in 2007 they removed all the old kids stuff which was a submarine and a pirate ship and replaced them with something better, even repainted the slides, built deluge and all the shops and stuff were renamed to fit the new theme.
This just doesnt make sense. At all.

It really doesn't, but HH and SK are basically are the same

not at sfkk. Its a very noticeable transformation

Well i haven't been to SFKK, so i can quite tell

Either way, it seems like a poor use of funds for a bankrupt company.
This is just a bad rumor...I HIGHLY doubt we will see another water park refurbishment any time soon. (SK was very well-accepted by the public...there is no reason to change it.)

Exactly its just mind boggling the rumors screamscape will listen to and post. wonder how disappointed he'll be next season and realizes he was wrong.

^It's very possible he isn't. All they have to do is replace the entrance logo out front they don't need to mess with and themeing....But yes the waterpark expansion doesn't make much sense unless they are planning to just completely take the rides from the back....The layout would be so confusing, so many dead ends.
Austin

Really if they do this expansion it wouldnt create alot of dead ends. remove the pathway under Thunder Run that runs to Blizzard River, conver that and the nortwest territory into the waterpark. Add a transfer track to Thunder Run now that we got the room to do it. And to make up for the loss of nortwest territory, turn the undeveloped land they own behind T2 and chang into a new section for rides.
To me thats the only way it would work.

Hello, again. I am new to the site and I have been checking out your topics. It's possible that SFKK might receive Hurricane Harbor. I sure hope the park does because it may be the success of this place yet. Hurricane Harbor did Six Flags America will back in 2005 when it made it's debut on Memorial Day. Even sense then our park has always been know for the water. Rides are okay, but more people come there to get soaked.
This could possibly serve as way to get more people coming back into your park for 2010 and then possibly getting more people interested for 2011 which the chain will celebrate its 50th anniversary where most of the parks are rumored to receive new rides and attractions. I think SFI will give this place a water park make-over.

I dont think its neccesary to re-theme the water park again. It's perfect the way it is. I'm really getting fed up with the waterpark to be honest.

It would be cool to see a SF park install a coaster inside one of the water parks. With their being stuff in the way, the lift hill would have to take the train up and over the water park and then drop through the rest of the park. But at least the ride entrance could be inside the water park, thus attracting more people there.

Lol they dont need to do that at KK. About 85% of people that enter the park go there for about all day and rarely ride any rides outside of it. Water coaster from Premier Rides would be nice addition to the park. They're very popular in Europe

I don't believe I have seen a water ride by Premier rides?

I like either the liquid coaster or the water coaster if i had to pick which one for the waterpark.

Yea, Storm Force 10 is kind of long. A faster stream current would have to be considered when constructing a similar ride. Cause with the amount of time the raft was taking to reach the next hill, its feels almost if you have to wait for the natural forces of nature to come along and push the boat. That ride must have been built a long time ago.

That's good man. I bet this site will become great sooner or later. Coaster is a good site in case you didn't know. I've been with them sense October of 2005 and I love them. I just wish the SFA topic on their site was more popular, but, not much happens with SFA so they don't get that much of a call for it. In 2010 it will become more popular because SFA is getting Thomas Land.

Like I said, I think a Hurricane Harbor theme would be very good for this park. It's a brand new name that could be marketed to get more people in the park. Adding the big yellow and blue slide would do well. From what I have heard that particular ride design has become real popular at amusement parks. Even Kings Dominion added the same slide in their Water Works area. And of course all the other parks that received Hurricane Harbor back in 2005 received the same slide. So its a bang for the buck if you ask me.

Tornado. Which is what proslide calls it so six flags was very very original in the naming of them lol.

The latest rumors say that Splashwater Kingdom may be rethemed, and get as many as 10 new attractions! If this is true, it is likely that the expansion may have to wait until 2011 for the anniversary, and land will likely come from Northwest Territory.
I'm starting to think that Six Flags may have intentions on trying to make SFKK focus on the water park, and advertise the coasters as something extra that are just there. We'll see.
Looking from the crowds that Splash Water Kingdom get's,I wouldn't doubt a big expansion.Honestly I think it would be better just to go the way Geuga Lake went, then distribute the parks rides to others in the chain.

^Be careful saying things like that around here. lol
I don't object to a water park expansion, but I do object to an over-hyped, half-assed job that Six Flags seems to be doing a lot these days.

Has anyone around here been to Splashwater Kingdom? If it is going to get re-themed what would they honeslty re-theme? It already is in a theme to a hurricane. Sheesh. People that say the re theme wasn;t noticable 2 years ago is blind. Go look at old pics and new ones you can tell a diffrence. The last name was Hurricane Bay and really hasn't left the hurricane bay theme just fixed it up a little. I re-theme is a stupid rumor that apperntly was made up. Because it will not happen. Period.

Due to Bonzai Beach being pretty much confirmed, we can consider this rumor:
