Kings Island AND Cedar Point 10/23 & 10/24/10

So, I was undecided on where to go for a week and finally the time came where we had to decide, we were like 100% for sure going to go to Wisconsin Dells, but as we were getting in the car we decided to go for the awesome weather in Cincinnati this weekend instead, good idea? Kinda.... eh.

Either way, It's Kings Island! Either this or Cedar Point are my favorite Cedar Fair parks, standout bests in the chain. SO Kings Island and DIAMONDBACK! Most of you know how I feel about Kings Island, and if you haven't been reading my PTR's just know I have a STRONG love for it!

Halloween Haunt is in my mind the best October transformation of the few I've been to. That also means CROWDS. It was VERY VERY crowded. Could barely walk down the midway at some points. Everything had a full queue except for like Flight Deck. Diamondbacks was spilling out and wrapped around to about being under its lift hill. Even Still It was only about an hour and a half, which gives you a good idea of how many people Diamondback can eat up, and with the single rider line the wait was about 30 minutes, also thanks to the single rider line no trains were leaving with any empty seats, I don't understand why more parks don't have these because they really are helpful.

Diamondback was running AHHMAZINGGGG Oh my god, best 3 Diamondback rides I've ever had! We rode in the back all 3 times and it was amazing, I think it's because I was so used to the front after the majority of my rides have been in the front, but the back was killer awesome, both have their advantages and I guess I gotta give the back more credit than I was previously!

We waited nearly 2 hours for Flight of Fear because it's my new obsession, sucked waiting after I got a Zen Ride on it just one month ago, but whatever Flight of Fear is awesome.

The only Haunt we did was Club Blood (shortest line), which I've never done and I thought it was really well done, I loved it. The attention to detail was awesome and they played good music inside. Kings Island does an awesome job with most of their stuff, compared to like SFGAm's Haunts which are very sparse.

Overall Kings Island was a good time... but it left us wanting more.... oh you want me to tell you? Well you can either read the title of this PTR or look at KINGS ISLAND PICTURES and that's where the secret lies. (By the way, we didn't get to Kings Island till late so it was pretty much dark so the pictures aren't that amazing but the Cedar Point ones make up for it I promise... whoops did I give away the secret?)

So we get back to the hotel and were like alright that was enough Kings Island, plus I went in september so why not go to CEDAR POINT and get some Dragsta lovin. Yeah sounds like a good plan to me.

So we woke up at 7 left the hotel at about 7:45 drove to Cedar Point and were walking in the gates with our Kings Island platinum passes roughly 20 minutes before the GP is let in. By then we figured to just go get in the line that was already forming for Dragster because it's pretty much tradition that we always ride it first.

Crowds were pretty light for Cedar Point, which lead to a very enjoyable day.

We waited about 45 minutes for a FRONT ROW ride on dragster, oh my god Dragster is amazing, by far my favorite ride at Cedar Point and in the front row it rivals X2 and El Toro. I don't care if it's only 17 seconds long it doesn't waste any time and still scares the s*** outta me no matter what. I live for Top Thrill Dragster. We also rode in the way back seat later in the day with about a 30 minute wait

After that we decided to hop on Gemini because there was no wait, MY GOODNESS, that was a very good decision, I forgot how good Gemini really is, especially in the back, god lord that thing is absolutely PACKED with airtime! I'm gonna have to add this on my list of must do's on a cedar point trip.

The rest of the day was spend riding other things like Maverick, which was running awesome. Millennium Force which was running AMAZING, Raptor which is pretty bad actually, Wicked Twister which is really good actually, and Blue Streak.

Blue Streak is also absolutely packed with airtime, I've only been on it twice before and I didn't really remember what it was like and there was no line so we rode in the front row, oh my god. this thing absolutely ejects you out of your seat, really this thing makes my top 5 wooden roller coasters for being so old I was really really surprised at how awesome it was running. Do NOT pass up Blue Streak on your next visit to Cedar Point.

Another surprise for me was MaXair, I've been wanting to ride it forever but never got around to it, the only other Giant Frisbee I'd been on was Delirium at Kings Island which is awesome as well and holy crap MaXair seemed like it was so much better, MaXair might be my all time favorite flat ride ever.

One of my favorite parts about Cedar Point is it's location on the peninsula, it just feels like paradise. A drive down the causeway is breathtaking looking at the skyline, it really helps build the excitement as well.

I dont think so, though I'm not completely sure, by the time we got over there it was dark and the fog is everywhere I couldn't really tell, nothing major is happening just a sign right now I think

Nice TR!!!!!!!!!!! I am in love with Diamondback too :D though I have only been on it twice... It still is an amazing ride!!!! And cedar point if pretty epic too :D Been there twice... Maverick is my favorite followed closely by TTD and MF.. Its a tough call between the 3... The only ride that I have not ridden is The sky swing one and obviously STR because last time I went to CP was 2009!

Edit: I regret not timing it right. But I really really really wanted to ride MF in the front. The first time I rode MF it was in the back! (AMAZING BOTH WAYS!) And I had another chance to ride it but it was between Maverick and SkyHawk... And I chose Maverick hoping I would be able to get out off the ride and rush to the skyhawk line before it closed (10:00) but sadly no.. It was at least 10:45 before I got off... But the weird thing is I never even saw the ride in person.. So that might also be the reason why I completely forgot about it...

Which is why MF has a loading station and a unloading platform. So they can have 3 trains on the track. Letting a 2nd train start going up the lift hill as the other one approaches the brakes. And it really does help. And the 3rd train is so when they do send a train early they have a train in the station waiting instead of waiting for the train that just got back to unload and such. It really does work. I experienced the MF line with both 2 trains and 3 trains (in 1 ride) They did not decide to put on the 3rd train until I was about 3/4 through the line. And the line then went faster. That dual station and 3 trains really helps the lines go faster!

Actually.. Millie is faster at dispatching their queue theoretically. It's rated at 1300 a hour. Maverick is set at 1200 and Dragster at 1000.

That might be true on paper, but when your there actually experiencing the wait, Dragster and Mavericks go much much faster, for MF to hit 1300 it would have to send somewhere around 36 trains in an hour and there is no way they send 36 trains an hour, they send about 1 every 3 minutes, that would give them somewhere around 1000 people per hour, the MF crew is usually always the worst/slowest too.

from my personal experience I would say the Maverick line always moves the fastest, that thing has to get more then 1200 an hour

Well you have to consider the variables. Operating conditions, the ride time, weather, and the way CP operates the coasters to get the trains out the fastest. I would say Millie does take longer after waiting forever and ever because of the time it takes to check down all seats, and the ride time. Where as Dragster and Maverick are faster and shorter trains.

Ok, well this is MY trip report and from MY observations, Dragster and Maverick's lines move much faster then Millennium's.

I respect what happened to you when you were there, and your opinions, but these are MY opinions.
