SFDK is getting a colossal new attraction. Check out the second tab on their website!

Definitely. Or maybe another animal attraction.

Damn... I was expecting pretty much nothing from Six Flags in 2011. I'm really liking these little additions.
It's nice to see Euro Fighters finally becoming popular with Six Flags. Enthusiast's may not like them, but they're perfect for parks; cheap, compact and fun.
I still belive with other people on this rumor that it will be a Ferris Wheel.

Why do people think its a ferris wheel? Where would it be coming from?

A manufacturer... I know Premier makes them and surely there are others.

I thought people would be thinking KK Ferris Wheel. I don't know. I don't see them adding a ferris wheel.
I also thought that SFSTL would remove their Ferris Wheel put that Star Flyer in that spot and move the Ferris Wheel to SFDK. Thats what I came up with, if it is a Ferris Wheel was from another park.

Also remember that SFDK has a 150 ft. height restriction.
Any Ferris Wheel under 150 ft. is not a "colossal" addition.

They can't take SFKK even if they wanted too. First off Kentucky Kingdom doesn't even own it. They're leasing it from Vekoma and its tied to the fair ground land. Definitely not owned by SF.
sccard01
09-07-2010, 04:41 PM
I think that just a rumor. They said the same thing about T2. If it was lease, it would be gone just like Sky Coaster.
Austin
09-07-2010, 05:10 PM
It was leased. But Vekoma probably doesnt want it back. I actually have photos of the sign that says it is leased but since they didn't ask for it back they probably believe that its not worth their time to repair or Six Flags or Ed bought it out right from Vekoma but the sign was never removed.
As I said, this is the picture as of August last season:

^ A Very...VERY far stretch. Let me give you a little look at HH at GAm.
HUGE wave pool...HUGE line...slides...activity pool...over-charged food...cabanas.
That's pretty much the amazingness that is GAm's HH. Even though they claim Their's is the nation's best, Every other HH claims that. They should sue each other.
My vote is that Vekoma didn't want it. From what I hear it's in poor condition, and no one is really buying these anymore, as not to many new parks are opening that require such an attraction.

What is different about Holiday World? They have a wave pool, lines, slides, and an activity pool. Does HW not have Cabanas or is their food cheaper?

The food is much cheaper and may I add that the burgers are not bad.

Lines arent typically too much of a problem when you have the capacity the park has. No cabanas, cheaper food, free drinks, two wave pools etc etc

I've heard differently about the lines, but you have more experience with the park than me. But you think one of the reasons HW is better is because they don't have Cabanas?
Austin
09-10-2010, 08:39 AM
Well I wasn't able to get up there this year but I don't think they have added them. But I don't think the cabanas ever did anything for other parks to my knowledge. Even though I think they would be a success at HW just because people are always looking for places to lay and all lol

You said it like cabanas is a negative thing that takes away from a water park. I don't have a problem with them, they're just kind of "there". If they want to have them and can make money off them, but still have adequete seating for everyone else, I have no problem with cabanas and don't see why anyone would.

I think SFDK's zoo is like GAm's water park. It's just another thing that helps bring people in, but it's not in full focus like at HW.
Austin
09-11-2010, 03:08 PM
Holiday World's water park isnt entirely the main focus I would say. They have to compete with SFGAms Water Park, and Kings Islands/SFGAm on the park side. They hit home runs on anything they do you could say. All the coasters (aside from howler) was either a Top wooden overall or a top 10 wooden at least once in their lifetime so far.

Its not a zoo though. Its an animal park like Seaworld where animals are part of the attractions. Its not separate like a water park.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this... but this is a horrible addition. It worked well at SFStl, but here... It's too small, they should have just put something different.
SFNE Expert
10-08-2010, 06:28 PM
They didn't have a choice. SF probably got a deal from Funtime because of the Mondial thing and Weber wanted to do this year on the cheap. It has to be that small because of the height variance thing.
On their website, with the new video of the ride and it looks like it will replace a coaster "The Cobra". Could the "The Cobra" be removed to go to another park?

Changsucks
11-03-2010, 10:11 PM
Okay, why? There are so many places they can put this and they decide to remove a great little coaster? SFDK isn't huge on rides, and they need to at least keep what they have, especially a fun family coaster with good capacity like Cobra.
David

^ I agree. I hope they could at least move it around the park.
SFNE Expert

I guess SDFK is Go Small, Go SFDK?
Really its so pointless to removed a great family coaster in a park already lacking in rides.
My guess if they remove it put in back in the park in 2012 with a new name (Cobra: Strikes Back) in the land part of the park.
David

^ Could be passed along as a new ride if theming is good enough.

COBRA is staying!
I was at SFDK and asked about Sky Screamer to staff operating Cobra, Medusa and Kong, their response, Cobra is staying, and the location for Sky Screamer has not yet been decided....
It will either be either to the right, or the left of Cobra, but management hasn't locked down the location yet.
Also, the Sky Screamer promos are being plastered on TVs all over the park, with people always stopping to watch. I have a feeling Sky Screamer is going to have a pretty big raw.
In other news, it looked as if there might of been some recent activity up by the old motion simulators....why did they stop using them in the first place since they were an up-charge?
2012 Intamin Family Launcher anyone? But in all seriousness, the park is prepping for something large scale, ie. A coaster. The park hasn't added a major coaster since 2004 when the Infamous Zonga failtacularly entered the park's coaster lineup for a mere two years. (and was only open the number of days equivalent to 3-4 months) Thomas and Tony Hawk have been dropped, saving them money on the copy writes. Space is another factor. The only area they could possibly use without removing a current attraction is the old motion simulator building, and the surrounding area. (Google Earth)
2012 is going to be a big year for SFDK I have a feeling.

SFNE Expert

I wouldn't say all those parks were getting coasters, no. Something innovative. Yes. I'm still surprised SFA isn't getting anything, but it just must not be in the budget this year.

SkyScreamer opened this past friday! You can check out a media day report here:
http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1041347#p1041347
It looks like a fun ride, and while I have ridden neither, I still think I would prefer this ride to the Cedar Fair Mondial swings. Especially since these are open, and only one of the Cedar Fair towers are.
Also, they finally ripped up the parking lot under most of Medusa and landscaped it! The landscaped parts look really nice. Now they just need to landscape the rest of it, then do the same to Scream!
Yes the lanscaped Medusa made me so proud!!
Austin
05-29-2011, 07:31 PM
Eh I'm not the biggest fan of the Sky Screamers. Yeah theyre a nice addition that families and thrill seekers will like but they have their limitations. Wind can easily push the swings around because they arent fixed to anything that wont sway. Theyre shorter as well. I prefer the mondials because they look like the more solid of the two. Arms instead of chains make it able to operate in higher wind conditions. Much taller off the ground. Plus they appeal to the same audience as the Screamers. I'm excited to get to go out to Kings Island once it opens.
The landscaping is nice but they should have done all of it not most of it. But its a nice upgrade over the parking lot look.

What problems? They've fixed the one problem they have had and opened it within a week of finding it and fixing it. The rest of the ones havent opened because apparently Cedar Fair doesnt like to make sure rides get built on time. KBF's because they were indecisive on the location, KI's just fell behind schedule for no reason, and I'm not even sure why CP's isnt open yet. But KI's and CP's are close from all reports.

They must be having problems. The following is according to the Screamscape page for each of the parks' Windseekers:
King's Island
As of April 29, it said that all that is left to do is test the ride and have it comissioned. That was a month ago. It doesn't take that long to test coasters, let alone a flat ride.
Canada's Wonderland
According to Screamscape, Windseeker opened last Tuesday, but hasn't operated since then. Apearently there is some sort of issue with the arms.
Knott's Berry Farm
As of May 26, one tower piece has been installed. (This part isn't Screamscape, it's a rumor from somewhere else) Appearently KBF changed their mind on the location, and couldn't get approval right away because some codes changed after the Japan Earthquake, and it all got delayed while that was being sorted out. Screamscape says expect WindSeeker to open mid-late July.
Cedar Point
According to Screamscape, there are wiring issues on WindSeeker and it is all being rewired now.
So with all that, things aren't looking good for any of the WindSeekers. Also, it's possible that the problem at Canada's Wonderland will show up on every Windseeker.
Austin

KBF does have one tower piece up. And by today there should be 2 to 3 more up. Westcoaster will have an update hopefully this week.
