Today is the final day of voting on all August Pepsi Refresh ideas, and Conneaut Lake came up big, $50,000 big.
Most of you all know that they have been in the running for the $50,000 grant in the Arts and Culture portion of the contest, well this month they finally placed in the top 10(To be specific, #1 overall) in the $50,000 category of ideas after placing 19th last month. This money will go towards the cost of restoration of Blue Streak, with most of it going towards replacing timbers, re-aligning track, and the restoration of Blue Streaks trains.
If they had not gotten this grant the construction crew working on the coaster would have been forced to go to work on another project and might not be back at Blue Streak for over half a year. Currently crews have replaced and re-aligned track in the turn around portion of Blue Streak and have ran Test Runs recently in hopes of meeting the required 100 runs and getting inspected to open possibly by Labor Day.
