Funtime - (8/24/10) With all this talk about how the Mondial Wind Seeker was made to run in high wind conditions, Funtime has quickly released a statement of their own about this issue:
”We have recently been made aware that some of our competitors have made allegations that our patented and name trademarked StarFlyer ride cannot operate in “normal” wind conditions. This is simply not true. As the inventors of the StarFlyer attraction obviously high winds are something we took into consideration when designing the concept.
The standard StarFlyer is made to operate in winds up to 44 mph (72 kmh), which meets or exceeds the wind limits set on similar amusement attractions. In addition, Funtime offers the option of a different seat stringing arrangement, which raises the threshold and allows the ride to operate within even higher winds.
We know of the ride’s success first-hand because some of our 22 installations operate in extremely high-wind areas. Along the wind-swept costs of the Baltic Sea we have StarFlyers at Tykkimäki in Finland, Tivoli in Denmark, Hansa Park in Germany and Divo Ostrov, St. Petersburg, Russia. South along the Aegean Sea in Athens sits a StarFlyer at Allou Park and standing in the windy shadows of Mount Fuji a StarFlyer runs at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan every day of the year.
These are just some of the examples of the StarFlyers across the globe that demonstrate the attraction’s superior design and construction. Funtime is always open to discussing our fantastic product with potential clients or reporters or and invite you to ask us about our patented attraction.”

They can operate in wild winds, but they don't realize that once they put on in Chicago (The Windy City), that statement will not quite be true.

Has anyone else rode a chair swing thats held up by chains in winds of excess of 15 mph? trust me you get knocked around. Now imagine that at 301 feet where the winds are stronger and your going faster then a chair swing and only supported by chains.

Oh and throw the fact that CP is on the great lakes so it has some strong winds frequently. Makes alot of sense to go with arms

YEAH! So why would they want to build a ride that could possibly be closed alot of the time... And honestly FunTime's are not that attractive... I like these versions better...
