Dubai is in massive debt. I mean they spent more than they had on stupid projects. The palm shaped islands, the earth islands, and they barely have enought o finish the new worlds tallest building. Ferrari is barely finishing their park.
From Six Flag Dubailand website.. (http://www.sixflags.com/national/footerNav/SixFlagsDubailand.aspx)
The first Six Flags project to be developed outside of North America, the theme park comes as part of Tatweer's tactical contribution to Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, which aims to develop the emirate into a leading global hub for tourism and leisure...
...Al Muntafiq added: "The new alliance with yet another global leisure and entertainment leader such as Six Flags consolidates Tatweer's commitment to becoming a leading global tourism, leisure and entertainment investor, and a key contributor to the tourism objectives of Dubai Strategic Plan 2015."
I think from this information that the park would be open past 2015, but the website still mentions about Mark Shapiro. So everything could of change.

Who paid for most of that stuff though? Are most of these projects privately financed or are they financed by the city? I'm not trying to start a debate or anything, I just don't know.

Well from the sound of it, it sounds as if Tatweeter(sp?) is the one investing on the park. So it sounds like this is a similar situation as the international Disney Parks. The park is built by a private investment group which will lease the Six Flags name. OLC in Tokyo does this for Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.

Maybe the project isn't dead yet.
It look like a great park. I just found out that the real name of the park is Six Flags Dubailand's Kingdom of Thrills. With all those coasters in this park they could of save money to help out the American parks even more.

^That's been the rumor on GAO. It looks like El Toro, but we aren't sure El Toro is going to be cloned. I'm just thinking a big Plug N' Play. I also see a Hyper, a Dive Machine, an Abismo looking ride, and a Giant Frisbee. The park looks great, but this will take a while.

From recent projects, it should take 2 years from ground-breaking. I will be very surprised if this opens before 2014, but this is progress, and that's a good sign.

Keep in mind that this is just concept art, not blueprints. It just has to look somewhat similar to most people.
As for the hyper coaster, unless this is just really bad comcept art, that is definately not a Nitro or Goliath clone. Nitro turns at the second hill and Goliath turns right after the second hill 90 degrees. It also has an extra brake run for Nitro and 2 extras for Goliath. No B&M Hyper has an ending like that one.
As for the woodie, it could go either way. I can't really tell.
I heard somewhere that they where getting clones of different rides like El Toro, Kingda Ka, and Tatsu.

I remember hearing that a while ago too. I think Shapiro said that. I don't remember hearing about a water park though, so maybe they opted out of some coasters in exchange for the water park.

Once guests had received their tickets in the WELCOME CENTER, they would then make their way onto the TREASURE PROMENADE- a chic boulevard filled with boutique shops and cafes. At the end of the promenade, guests would be beckoned by the incredible "KALEIDOSCOPE"- SIX FLAGS DUBAILAND's central icon, as well as by the towering structure of The DUBAI GIANT giga coaster

At the heart of SIX FLAGS DUBAILAND is the park's spectacular icon- the KALEIDOSCOPE. Designed by "Glow in the Park" Production Designer Raul Rodriguez, the Kaleidoscope is an icon unlike any other in the world. Centered around a giant ferris wheel, colossal fabric discs turn free-form in opposing directions to create an endless series of thrilling visuals that take on a different look in the day and night.

One of the most unique aspects of SIX FLAGS DUBAILAND is that the lands do not try to re-create specific times or places, but rather are designed to evoke certain emotions. From the park's central hub, guests would be able to choose from six spectacular gateways representing these breathtaking themed areas.

Now that we've reached the park's hub, we'll explore SIX FLAGS DUBAILAND one land at a time, beginning today with EXPLORE. In EXPLORE, guests can fly in a stunt plane on the "SCREAMIN' EAGLE", careen down a whitewater river on "ROARING RAPIDS", or take a scenic drive on the park's "ANTIQUE CARS."

Here's a first look at one of SIX FLAGS DUBAILAND's signature thrill rides. Standing at over 200' feet tall, SCREAMIN' EAGLE is a thrilling coaster featuring multiple vertical drops and aerobatic maneuvers designed to simulate the flight of a daredevil stunt plane.

I'm loving the Dive Machine theme. Dive Machine inversions are all Immelman loops, which are based off the flight maneuver. It fits well and hopefully it lives up the the "multiple vertical drops" and "simulate the flight of a daredevil stunt plane".

I imagine since the park was not going to be owned by Six Flags that if the project is ditched the plans will just be shelved. It seems more probable that they will continue with the plans they already have.

Dubailand was sapposed to have opened by late 2011 but never happend due to the economy. But in November talks started surfucing that Dubai Holding Inc. would talk the companies back into Dubailand. I was in contact with both companies. Six Flags had no comment basiclly trying to hide it. Dubai Holding Inc. said that they did talk to some companies but did not say which companies they talked to. They said"Dubailand is now back in the talks and we hope to have it up by 2013". While I was suspended I went to Coasterforce.com and they had a huge thread on it. And screamscape has an article on it http://www.screamscape.com/html/dubailand.htm. I hope it is up and running by November of 2013.:slaphappy:

Why the hell is every one saying a 5% chance of Six Flags going through with Dubailand. If you email Dubai Holding Inc there going to own Six Flags Dubailand they will act like the presandaints secreat service
Why do you trust emails? Why would they give an ordinary human who they don't even know info about what they would be doing? It's like emailing Cedar Fair the day before they sold CGA. They won't tell you they're going to sell it.
Anyways, I also give Dubailand a 5% chance of going through. I can't see SF opening a park halfway across the world of where all their parks are. Plus Dubai already has a big amusement park, I believe.

I know I said I was done on this topic! But I have PROOF that Six Flags drop this park!!
On the 2010 Annual Report from Six Flags posted this on page 18!
In March 2008, we entered into an agreement with Tatweer Dubai LLC, a member of Dubai
Holding (‘‘Tatweer’’), to create a Six Flags-branded theme park in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We
agreed to provide design and development services for the creation of a Dubai theme park, which
Tatweer or its affiliate would operate and manage. We also granted Tatweer the exclusive right to use
our brand in certain countries for certain time periods including the United Arab Emirates. As
consideration for our services and the exclusivity rights granted in the agreement, we were entitled to
receive license and other fees over the design and development period plus an ongoing royalty fee once
the park opens. As a result of the recent financial difficulties and the particular effect that the world
financial crisis had on Dubai, Tatweer failed to make a payment due to us pursuant to our agreement
and since they have not remedied their contract breach, we have terminated our agreement.

And these websites has been update in years!
http://www.dubailand.ae/home.html?CSRT=15347068825382978137 (since they mention the same stuff every year I been on the website!
