View Full Version : Chang with Sit-Down trains
Does anyone else think that they could improve the ride?
Here is a picture of what they look like:

Yes they should definately get them. The guy im going to the park with has a knee injury and hes unsure if he can stand up without hurting it so he would love to get this here. I also would love to see it.

These would make the ride SIGNIFICANTLY better! It would also make dispatch times faster.

Yea I havent rode chang yet bc i have bad knees and standing for long periods of time just kills me. I'll try it saturday tho.

I don't get how Chang's stand-up cars would become Kumba's sit-down cars. Kumba has a good distance between seat and floor, Chang can't.

Buying all new trains.

Yeah, but money doesn't fall from trees and SF inc. is in bankrupt. Might be a bit of a problem.

We were just discussing if they would improve the ride.

Well if SFKK is as prfitable as they say, they could buy them themselves. Hell if they buy new trains for chang buy new trains for everyone lol. except Road runner, roller skater and GL. the others suck lol. Thunder runs PTC train blows horribly, that divider is painful 2. T2 well what can we say you all know pretty much lol.
I would like to see floorless trains on Chang...but I'd rather it be a stand-up coaster than a standard sit-down.

I like how the chang is a stand-up coaster!
+They need to tear down T-2 or inprove it.
FUTURE IDEAS (my opinion)
Keeps Twins and Mile High Falls
Tear Down T-2
Build a Tony Hawk's Big Spin to replace!
Build better lay out

^^You need the Bizarro floorless seats. They are the original seats and even renovated, it's nice, comfy, and cushined!

I've always thought that most stand-ups, Chang is one, would be better with floorless trains. While that would be ideal, sit-down trains are more cost effective without the nescecary addition of the floor, and they deliver almost the same experience, so this is probably more practical speculation, even though neither are likely to happen.

I'd love sit down trains. Its just more natural and like someone said before it makes loading faster.

Chang is a great stand-up coaster. It is my second favorite behind Riddler. Personally, I thought it was smoother (and overall better) than Mantis. Taking away the "Stand-Up" style would kill the coaster. It would lose its identity. So changing an already great coaster to a(n) standard/average sit down coaster would kind of suck. Also, SF thrives on marketing Chang as slightly unique because of the stand-up style. Changing the trains to a standard sit down style would kill SFKK marketing.
However, floorless might work, but they would have to change and enlarge the entire station, which is too much money. Also, can floorless trains actually run on the dimensions of the track?
Just add on-board sound to Chang and it would turn from great to awesome.
Palmer was just saying that SF probably can't afford entirely new B&M sit down trains so why change it. I agree.

I don't think sitdowns of any kind will work on Chang. The ride was designed for standup trains, B&M bases their layouts on the rider's heartline. Putting sitdowns on will shift that down to the rider's heads, and might cause an uncomfortable ride in any kind of turns.
Same thing's been suggested and talked to death about Iron Wolf at SFGAm, and it wont work for this same reason.
When I rode Chang it was smooth as glass, I don't see any need for Six Flags to invest in new trains for it.

I do. I cant stand for long periods of time like you have to do on chang.

What I do on Chang is keep the seat well below you so when they lock the restraints you can sit down. But yeah I see no reason to invest in new trains.

Theres 2 good reasons to invest in them.
1. It takes forever to load with stand up, sit down is quicker
2. Like ive said before health issues.
they dont even have to replace all of it, make one train a sit down etc. and there you go. Make a standing line, and then a sit down line. gives you a choice. Or if its possible modify the seats so that if you want to sit down you can push the seats down to where you want to sit and then it locks into place then jsut sit and put the OTSR on.

As said earlier, it would be impossible. B&M designed Chang to make all the forces to go down to your legs, but with the sit down trains that force is now on your head. And trust me, you don't want that. I absolutely love Chang and still don't see a need to change. it.

no someone said heart. no one ever said legs. besides if allt eh forces were directed to your legs youd be getting off practically in pain each time. its based on your heart line.
and thats why i recommended a option for the trains without getting new ones:

Ummm, Have you ever rode Chang? The forces are all directed to your feet, you will know when you ride it. Because yes at some points it does hurt your legs. Not your heart.

Well then what do you think is keeping your feet basically glued to the floor in an element producing strong positive g-forces, such as a loop or a turn?
I don't know if Chang would ever be able to be transformed into a sit down. Especially with the corkscrew (B&M calls it a Flatspin) and G-forces. The corkscrews on roller coasters are designed to revolve around a certain point in space or on the body to use G Forces properly. Even the misposition of a human on the ride could change the biological effects on the person. (I'm not saying this WOULD happen on Chang, but it's something to consider) Making extremely raised seats to counteract that would work but would be hugely impractical.
It's also the matter of all the equipment that needs to be swapped. The standup trains can't be just taken off and sitdowns put on in their place, there's all of the machinery designed for the standup trains to lock that need to come out, plus the control panel and computer systems will need to be overhauled. It's not worth the time and money for Six Flags to invest in sitdowns. They have a little bankruptcy issue that's kind of killing them right now.

I like the whole stand up ride, I think that ride would not be much of a ride anymore if it became a sit down ride!!!

Maybe they make one train sit down, one train stand up. Split the line in two, sit-down/standup. Best of both for us, yet loading would be forever and the wait would piss people off.

You can't simple as that. Chang IMO moves pretty fast...

Stand-ups in general load ridiculously slow. For some reason people can't understand that you stand up straight with the seat a few inches below you, and they usually have to unlock and re-check almost every row.

You might need another station for that because controls are probably different for stand up and sit down. Or you would have to make the station longer, which would get rid of the brake run.
About the forces: I think if you were sitting down the forces would be aimed at your lower back and waist. So having speeds and maneuvers like chang would kill that area because the ride was designed for stand-up.
(I'm just guessing, but either way, it would kill your lower back)

how would it eliminate the brake run? the brake run is really long.
nitrofan
08-11-2009, 11:33 PM
^^Why would we need to take off parts of the brake run?
Austin
08-11-2009, 11:35 PM
at the brake run all they would need to do is increase stopping force progressively as you go down the brake run.
I believe Stand-up and Floorless B&M's have similar heartlines.
Depending on how much a station re-vamp would cost, this is the only change in trains that I could see happening.
