So here's my scoop. I'm planning a trip for August 7th to August 10th. My coaster buddy and I are absolutely torn between our two options. This is where you guys come in. I'm going to get your input on this. Here are the facts. We both live in RI and have a strict time limit on the trip. It will last from the 7th at 6 p.m when we get in the car to drive until the 10th at night when we arrive back home at a reasonable time for work in the morning.

Trip option 1: Cedar Point
Being an 11 hour drive. We would drive half way there until stopping at a hotel for the night and then getting to cedar point about mid day on the Sunday. We would get about a day and a half in the park until we have to drive 11 hours back home on Tuesday. This park would be new to the both of us.

Trip option 2: Dorney Park, Hershey Park, & Knoebel's
This trip is simpler, but more complicated at the same time. It gives us about 2 and a half days in parks. We would have about a 7 hour drive to Dorney and have up to a full day there, then drive to Hershey, have about a full day there, and then spend the last day at Knoebel's for about 4 hours until we need to spend another 7 hour drive home. Knoebel's is a new park to both of us and Dorney is new to her, while Hershey is a park we have both completed except for a single credit, but loved while there.

We are absolutely torn between the amazingness that is Cedar Point, however the Penn. trip gives us more time in parks and much less driving. The kicker about the whole scenario is the fact that both trips will cost essentially the same between hotel, gas, and park tickets. Let's let the debate begin.

Both are good trips, and I was debating between both while reading, but once I read that you've both been to Hershey, I immediatly dropped any chance of that trip and I 100% say go to Cedar Point. It's worth the drive and one and a half days there is enough. Besides, a full day at Dorney is basically wasting time and the same goes for Hershey as you've already been there (normally it wouldn't be, but when you would be there over Cedar Point, it is). Knoebels is good but not worth changing trips for.

The killer of the Penn trip is the fact that our missing credit happens to be Storm Runner. We're starting to naturally lean towards one side for a trip now at this point, but we were hoping to see a few opinions and really just drum up some forum talk.

Id take Trip 2. If you wont have much time in CP then you should hold off on it and do it when you can spend at least a whole day or two in the park.

Cedar Point would be one full day open to close in the park and also a day from about 2 or 3 in the afternoon until close.

Cedar Point takes about 2 full days to actually ride everything.

Well he does have a day and a half. He might be a little scrunched but I believe he will be fine.

I went for a day and half in 2008 and we almost rode everything. But we spent the most time at MF and Maverick. And the park was packed.

I got all 18 credits and rerides/some front row rides/some other rides in a day and a half, and the park was far from empty. It's plenty of time.

Millennium Force & Maverick > Phoenix & Storm Runner.

How is Cedar Point in early august on a sunday and a monday? Weather, lines, I know they have a bug issue certain times of year, is this that time of year?

I went in mid-June, but I've heard August is a pretty good time to go. July and October are supposedly the only times to really watch out for.

I think the bug issue is basically the whole year, but it's over exaggerated. Nothing to worry about.

Right now the trip is leaning, but not yet confirmed to be cedar point.

Looks like we're going to choose Cedar Point. Any locals on here?
