As most of you probably know by now, we are working on a massive project to build a park index that will give you all of the information you need to plan a trip to various parks. The next step that we would like to take is offering pictures of the rides and coasters at these parks instead of just coasters and having links to RCDB. Basically, this means we are going to have tons of ride pages now with photos, ride statistics, reviews, and more.

So since our staff obviously can't be at every park in the world taking pictures, we need your help. Below, we are going to provide a current list of needs for our park index. It will be alphabetical by park, and will be edited when we recieve the pictures that we need. Since there are so many parks and rides that we need pictures of, we are going to start with parks that begin with A, then add to the list from there. This is not going to be an easy of quick project, so expect this to go on for probably more than a year from now.

To submit a picture, we are asking that you upload your pictures to an album in the site and embed it in a PM sent to me. If you have already uploaded a picture to the site and posted it somewhere, please send it to me anyway.

This list will be updated constantly, so please check back frequently before you go to parks. Just because ride isn't on the list right now doesn't mean we don't need pictures of it, so please take pictures of rides at parks further in the alphabet than the parks we have gotten to so far.

Finally, if you find any errors in the index, please send me or Austin a PM so we can fix it. We check up on major parks on the index frequently to update their pages, but some of the smaller parks that you don't hear as much about sometimes go longer without updates. If you have any parks that aren't on our index that you think we should have, please send me or Austin a PM.

This sounds like it will be fantastic when its completed, unfortunetly I dont have anything from the A category, but I'm thinking it would be fun writing reviews for stuff later on

Yeah, it should be very cool. Even if parks you're going to soon aren't on the list of needs yet, they will be soon so you can help us out by taking pictures of the harder to find things like ride signs, stations, and queues.

Also, this list will probably change daily, so please check back frequently.

I will get started on saturday when i go to Darien Lake as long as my refurbished camera comes before then... My camera broke when i was at Seabreeze cause someone knocked my bag over and it broke my camera and my earbuds also broke on my ipod.. part of it was still stuck in the ipod luckily with a wire sticking out with it...

Remember I had those Wiggles World pictures on my albums and they got lost when we change to APA. I have offically put them back on, so you can use those photos for the Index.

Link to album.. (http://amusementparkauthority.com/forums/album.php?albumid=13) or just go to my profile on this website..

^Thanks, it will probably be a while until we get to SFFT though.

Just as an overall update, very little work will be done on this project through July, but it will resume in August. Please continue taking pictures this summer of rides, ride signs, coasters, coaster signs, coaster stations, queues, and general park pictures.

Thanks!

Right now with this project is to start archiving images for this project which will not make visible progress until August at the best because I want to get the base Index built of at least 500 parks and then start to build the ride pages. It'd be just a mass confusion if ride pages where attempted while we was adding park pages.

That sounds good! I'm glad ride pages are at least in the planning, the link to rcdb is really tacky.

The one thing that I'm worried about though is too many pages. We already have nearly 310, ride pages would instantly swamp us up to around 2000 or more. I'm considering just doing roller coaster pages but I might find a way to organize these easier. Dont know how to do it but It'll be a challenge.

Well an idea to keep the count of too many pages down is to just make pages for parks that someone on the site has been to so we can then give a trip report and pictures. Those are really the only things that set one park index apart from any other. Currently, other than the pages that have links to trip reports, the pages don't offer anything you can't get on rcdb or google.

I know you've put in a lot of time to a lot of the non-trip reported pages, but it's just something to keep in mind. It's what TPR does, and while I'm not saying to be just like them, it makes the most sense in my opinion and saves room.

I think we can have as many pages as we want so I might stagger the order numbering. right now i have the parks set at 100 and up. So I might start ride pages out at 1000.

But things TPR doesnt have standard across the board is directions, weather conditions and maps and brochures. Since we wanted to get this going as soon as possible we linked to rcdb and themeparkbrochures.net but once everything gets going all of that will be moved to our site except maybe the brochures/maps. Plus robb and his staff used a table creator tool probably to generate their pages so some of their things wasnt looked up so things are inaccurate. Doing it by hand I've found that hes put addresses to parks sometimes that lead you to the wrong place so I spend the time to trackt he parks actual address down and get it right. Plus ive noticed a few of his telephone numbers are jacked up throwing in a spanish Y at the end of some lol. Not to bash Robb or anything but you would think these things would be checked though to their credit it is hard to manage a large database like this and they were on the small parks.

Oh I almost forgot, Bing in most areas offers birds eye view which gives you 10x as much detail of a park. It'll be interesting to see how the index's stack up once its all completed.

Oh and in the future I'm considering adding links to a parks NPN page, a link to online ticket purchasing for the park, and possibly a fan page(Not sure on the fan page one just yet)

Pretty much I just dont want this to be like TPR's where its just a list of parks basically. My vision for ours here at APA is a travel planning guide. You can see the weather, get directions, see overhead imaging in birds eye view, and get the latest news and rumors. So in the future when things are added like that you will then be able to get all the information you need from just one place. Need to buy tickets or check costs? Dont worry about searching for it. Want to read some informative articles? We'll have you covered there (well mostly NPN). As you can tell I'm very excited that we have a opportunity to make a real impact with our Index when its completed.

That is kind of my opinion on it too and it is why I decided to start this project. I like the idea right now of only adding parks that people have frequently been to, but that would end up being a logistical nightmare behind the scenes on the site. I'm sure there is an easier way though.

I looked around and I have determined that you should in theory be able to store as many pages as you want. The current state of the Index plan's that I'm carrying out involve 500 parks maximum. Which is only 198 more then we already have. Any further additions in terms of parks would be on a case by case basis.

This is one of the original projects I started and I intend to see it through. I realize that we need the ride pages also but if we had done everything at once we would have become overwhelmed at the amount of pages. In my mind park pages come first, then you add the ride pages. Park pages provide you the jumping off point, and the ride pages are just an extension. I don't like constantly doing things all the time and its much simpler to just do one portion of the index at a time. Right now its the park pages. Next it will be the ride pages. Its like an assembly line. When I do the parks I open up every tab I need to work with to create it. Then its checked over for errors and published. Doing rides with the parks would mean trying to figure out what rides are in what park and make individual pages for the rides and then link the rides to the parks and by the end of one park it would be a mess.

I've got it figured out in my head but its confusing to explain I guess you could say. I will say this, when we are finally ready to begin rides we will have some very nice pages. It wont just be pictures, we will try to incorporate as much information as possible. Like min. height, and if a park charges tickets to ride a ride we would list how many tickets you need to ride it. Our goal is to have the most informative index around, I chose to use rcdb because they had plenty of information available and it would make it quicker when making the park pages.
