Been awhile since we had an update, thats my fault. But there is a few things to announce from the site itself.
New Banner:
We have our prototype banner but it needs a little tweaking before I feel comfortable rolling it out site-wide. It looks pretty nice in my opinion at the moment but needs a little polishing up. As a matter of fact, I'll put it up at the bottom of this update for you all to see what it looks like right now.
Trip Reports:
I have finally gotten around to converting PTR's to our site so that they dont burn up your photobucket bandwidth and keeps them safe if something messes up on the site so they are easy to restore. I tested the new method on 7 and I seem to have to the process down pat. it took only 4-6 minutes to do 3 of the 7 so it shouldn't take much longer to finish the remaining 23 reports.
Park Index:
I have wrapped up initial work on Phase four. Phase four brought in around 25 waterparks to the index and more will be on the way as we progress. I have delayed the long planned Phases 5 and 6 until further notice to focus on adding more parks to the waterpark section and possibly the rest of the index. Phase four also brought in a few other new things to the Index. Most importantly this: http://sfkkonline.com/index.php?pageid=indexhub.
Yes as you can see I am keeping true to my promise to keep the index easy to search through. Sometime in the future after Phase 5 (International Theme Park Index) and Phase 6 (International Water Park Index) I will add in something that will be very neat and hardly anyone has; a Defunct Parks Index.
Once this update is posted the Hub page will be rolled out completely. Hope you enjoy this nice little addition.
Thread Prefix Testing:
We have discussed the possibility of using thread prefixes for the Trip Report section so that it would be easier to search for a Trip Report for a certain Chain or Park. While we dont think its neccessary just yet for the Trip Reports I wanted to test the concept out in the Theme Parks & Coasters section of the site. So if you start a new thread in that area please try and use the prefixes. If its about Six Flags there will be a prefix that looks like this: [SIX FLAGS] that will be placed before the thread title. Cedar Fair and Disney etc are the same way.
News Elsewhere:
Texas Giant:
Six Flags has currently removed about 80% of the track and has begun running the new track up the lift hill. Its really coming along, It should offer a nice ride once complete.
Voyage:
The first Timberliners arrived about a week and a half ago and they are currently undergoing testing. I really cant wait to see them for myself this summer.
Sky Rocket:
Construction is about 98% complete and will be finished this week and we could see testing by next week. Only the first hill's track and one support beam are missing.
Six Flags:
As we are all aware the company is out of Chapter 11 and has drastically reduced their debt from $2.3 Billion dollars to only $1.0 Billion Dollars, and has reduced their payment from $100 Million to only $77 Million dollars each year so look for some new thrilling rides in the near future chain wide. Additionally Mark Shapiro is no longer with the company and the interim CEO is former Paramount parks CEO Al Weber. And finally Six Flags has released their first Quarter results. They said they brought in $57.1 Million in Revenue, about $6 Million more then the same time last year.
And as promised here is the prototype banner:
