why what?
Picture on first post.
Never mind, the picture didn't work at first.
For only 3 parks getting something new this year, there sure are a lot of Funstruction signs around the chain.
Gosh what all is SFGA getting in 2011?
Markings which may or may not be related to Chang have also been discovered in the parking lot along the Hurricane Harbor fence.

I wouldent be suprised if KK does get Chang back then SFGA would ended getting Bonzai Beach.
Its going to be a large site, since I herd a rumor stating that the Go Karts are moving to the former Splash Water Falls Area (whatever the ride was called). If they don't get Chang and they get Bonzai Beach, they could might have extra space since the Karts might be moving to put in a new ride.

Alright, that's enough of the Chang coming back to KK discussion in every thread. It seems to be popping up everywhere! Please at least try to keep it in the relevant topics, like the KK Closed and Chang topics.
In this thread, we evidence that some parts of Chang are on site at SFGAm, so there is no reason to be so firm that it's coming back to KK.
Well i am just pointing out that this space could possibly end up getting Bonzai Beach I wouldent be suprised.

I must say I really am shocked. I never could foresee Chang actually staying at Great America.

Wonder what happens to Iron Wolf now.

Notes from meeting..
I posted this to my notes section on facebook. For those that don't have it, and to make it easy, I'll just post it all here.
ZBA Meeting, 05/26/2010
Park president Hank spoke to the Zoning Board of Appeals tonight in regards to a height variation petition submitted by the park. The request was done as the park is looking to add a new coaster to the front of the park, in the space that used to be home to the Space Shuttle ride.
Hank started out his presentation by saying that Six Flags was in the process of relocating a coaster from another park, and they have picked Six Flags Great America to be that park. Two height variations were asked for tonight: One for the lift hill of the ride, which is 150 feet, and a 2nd at 137 feet. No mention of what part of the ride would be at the 137 foot mark.
Hank also said that the ride is a big one, and has a big footprint. It will be a steel Stand up coaster, made by B&M.
When asked by members of the board what the name of the new coaster would be, Hank's reply was "They were still working on a name".
---------------------------------
My comments: With that information, the new coaster is of course CHANG from Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. Site drawings were brought by the park, and I did get a look at them, and it is indeed, Chang.
Keep in mind that Hank did say STAND UP coaster, so any thoughts or hopes at this point of a conversion to a floor-less coaster are now gone.
---------------------------
Once Hank was done speaking, the floor was opened up to allow the public to speak. What's interesting about this part of the meeting is that everyone who voiced their concerns about the request did not say that the actual height of the coaster was the issue. Keep in mind that this was a request for a variance to the 1974 ordnance that says that the park must put in a request for a height variance anytime they want to add anything over 125 feet. No structure can be taller then 310 feet. This process is to allow (or deny) a request to build something based on the actual object itself, and the impact on the area (site lines, noise of the actual object, visual appearance, etc).
EVERY Person who came up to speak made comments about the screams of the park guests on the rides, the late hours that the rides run, the concerts the park has, the music from the water park, the people who walk/drive thought the neighborhoods near the park (and the mess they leave behind), the holes in the fence, the traffic, etc. One of them even said that it was not the height that bothered them, but everything (and I probably missed a few items) I said above did.
Once the public had their say, it was time for the board to discuss the request, and take a vote. One of the members of the ZBA came right out and said that while the comments by the residents may be valid, and would be included in the minutes of the meeting, NONE of them expressed a concern in regards to the ride. This member went on to say that the residents comments would play NO PART in the vote by the board that evening. However, he did follow up those comments to say that the ZBA does not have the final say in this request. The Village Board of Gurnee must also hear the request, public comment, and then take a final vote. It would be a future Village Board of Gunree Meeting that comments like the ones made tonight would have a better impact, and would be taken into consideration in regards to the final vote.
In the end, the ZBA approved the request by Six Flags Great America to build this new coaster. The request now moves on to the Village Board, where a final approval will be needed.

It's kind of funny how much info we already have on this, which doesn't happen too often.
It's too bad it isn't possible for Chang to become a floorless coaster.

WHY did Six Flags choose SFGAm, of all SF parks, to relocate Chang to? It just surprises me. I think SFStL would have been the best choice, but I guess they think SFGAm deserves something big (they do) and nothing else big will be coming to the chain in a while, so might as well give them Chang...

Well SFStL just got two coasters in a row a few years ago. Maybe that was their mindset. I think SFGAm should have gotten a new floorless and give Chang to SFA, but SFGAm does need something big.

Well think about it, SFA already has big coasters, they need a family one. SFStL, like nitrofan said got two coasters in a row. This was the obvious choice because they got family attraction after family attraction. IW will probably be removed.

You think they would relocate Iron Wolf? I mean it doesnt make sense to run two stand ups when one is clearly better (Chang).

I think Iron Wolf will run at SFGAm until it's retired. It's too close to the end of its service life to be moved.
Lots of parka have miltiple rides of the same type already.

I think it may operate the 2011 season, they get scrapped like ScreamScape reported previously.

It could be sent down to Stl with it being so close. But I mean with the proper care and etc it could still be running 10-15 years from now.

But at some point you have to consider that it was a company's first coaster, it has been running for 20 years, and it's in bad condition. I don't know what the mechanical condition is like, but just looking at the trains and the station you can tell it has had better days. It was not running well in 2008 when I rode it last.
Another crappy steel coaster is the last thing SFStL needs right now.
Austin

True. It will likely have its trains sent to the warehouse like Texas Giant's and BBW trains were.

It's NEVER running well, Id be happier with another johnny Rockets stand then Iron Wolf... every time I hear the words Iron and Wolf a shiver goes down my spine in remembrance of all the crappy rides I've had on that thing.
They should give it to SF Mexico, which is also filled with all crappy rides (I've been there) because people down there will probably enjoy it more then there death trap SLC that they have.....
As for Chang, I think it's fantastic and I'm very happy that it's coming here to SFGAm.... I just have to wait a stinkin year... /:

I don't know, It's an SLC, they all suck! (It might have been because I had to wait over an hour for a freaking SLC because they were only running one train ) The only SLC I've been on that I liked was Mind Eraser at SFNE, it was actually kinda smooth.. in a weird way

I said that there SLC was the best ride in the park, because everything else was just pathetic, I have to admit there's was smoother then say T2, but it still had little jerks and slams into the restraint here and there.
Assume the Vekoma riding pose of holding on, closing your eyes and hoping for the best :)

The riding position is pushing your legs inward against the horn as hard as possible haha. It actually prevents you from losing your man hood :P
I like T2 so I would assume the other SLC's to me would be like riding on air haha

Never had the chance, well I did but I dont like standing and putting the forces on my knee. I was supposed to get to ride Hulk and Dragon Challenge but Universal was cut off the plans for Orlando. I had a chance to ride DB but I hardly have time to spend with my mom so she was going to be by herself so I took her to ride Avatar and the Fairly Odd Coaster to spend time with her.

Come on, you lived near KK for years. The forces of the ride are on your feet, I've never noticed a strong force on my knee on any stand-up.

Not when you play sports with a already bad knee and it bothers you to stand up for that long.

GURNEE -- Six Flags Great America has canceled plans to install another roller coaster, according to Hank Salemi, general manager.
Salami gave no reason for the cancellation and no indication whether this might be a temporary or permanent situation.
It was believed that the roller coaster in question was a stand-up that had recently been dismantled at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom to make way for a water park.
Six Flags Great America already has numerous other roller coasters and thrill rides.
Village Administrator Jim Hayner announced the change of plans for Six Flags at Monday night's Village Board meeting. The company had applied for a zoning variance to accommodate the new roller coaster.
"Mr. Salami called and requested that we pull his roller coaster zoning request off tonight's agenda," Hayner said.
The proposal was dropped with no indication that it would return for further consideration at some later time.
Trustees had expected to vote on the proposed variation Monday night. Approval was necessary to install the new ride. The Zoning Board of Appeals had already approved the proposal earlier.
Under a 1980 conditional-use permit that sets zoning controls for the theme park, the proposed permit would have allowed roller coasters up to 151 feet in height, and a zoning variance for any higher structure to a maximum 310 feet in height.
The new roller coaster was planned to replace the Space Shuttle ride in the Space Port area. It would have been located east of the main park entrance, south of the 310-foot Sky Trek Tower, and west of Hurricane Harbor water park.
