This past weekend we also went to Six Flags St. Louis for our first time.

Here's some Raw Footage of Freeze, Evel Knievel, and THBS If you care..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAZb6iCkwwU

I really liked SFSTL and enjoyed my time there. The park is beautiful and was very clean as well, plus all employees seemed to be working quick and were very friendly, I'm liking the "new Six Flags" more and more everyday, also a lot of things looked touched up and "new" for example Ninja's brand new paint looks absolutely great and really drew attention to the ride... even if it isn't the greatest ride ever.

Anyway, 5 words: Evel Knievel and Mr. Freeze! These two rides were just plain kick ass, never in a million years did I imagine Mr. Freeze to be so intense and so much fun! I was hoping Mr. Freeze wasn't gonna be like Flight of Fear at Kings Island (which sucks) but thankfully my expectations were pretty much blown away after I rode it in the front row, It really is one of the "Coolest Coasters on the Planet" Great hang-time especially on the return trip and you gotta love the couple seconds of weightlessness you get on the vertical spike. If you go to SFSTL DON'T MISS OUT ON MR. FREEZE!

Evel Knievel was just as good as I was expecting it to be, maybe even a little bit better, Almost Terminator good! All and all who doesn't love a smooth GCI in those incredibly comfortable Millennium Flyers, with an abundance of those irresistible little "pops" of airtime :) Well that's what makes Evel Knievel great!

The Boss is a huge ride, parts of me hated it and left me cursing at it, and then the other side of me loved it deep down on the inside, It has a good layout, but Isn't really the smoothest thing ever... With a smoother ride it would be pretty damn good!

Screamin Eagle was pretty fun, definitely a few pops of good airtime in there. really nothing too exceptional but I enjoyed my ride on it.

I found BTR to be really exceptional, like wayyyyy better then any of the other one's I've been on, excluding the one at SFGAm, because It's still the best... Twisted Twins trains were also being stored under BTR...

Oh yes, I almost forgot. They were doing some kind of "Double Ride" thing till 1 in the afternoon, basically every train got to go twice, it was pretty sweet deal especially on Evel Knievel and Mr. Freeze!

Anyway I probably went on for too long... pictures...

We got to the park 20 minutes after they opened and Evel Knievel was still testing.......

Nice. I'm really disappointed I missed out on SFStL last year (thought about it on my Midwest Trip but couldn't fit it into the schedule, I was actually considering dropping SFKK for it :p), looks like a really good park...

Great TR!

I thought SFStL was a very nice park, but it really needs new steel coasters. I think if a family coaster is going to SFA next year, then Chang should come to SFStL up near Tidal Wave. Otherwise replace Ninja with a Floorless coaster in the next 5 years.

Evel Knevel is one of my favorite GCI's. Every time I ride a wooden coaster now (with the exception of El Toro) I wish it had Millenium Flyers.

Double Days sounds like a really cool idea!

I agree, and they should give us at SFGAm a GCI!! ;)

Why don't you want a GCI in New Jersey?

^What do you not get, GADV HAS EL TORO!!!!!!!!! IT IS BETTER THAN A GCI (even though I haven't actually rode one. But clearly, El Toro is taller, faster, has more airtime, longer (i think), etc)

Me and my dad was planning on going when the Scooby Doo dark ride opened lol that was way back then. I still want to go tho because its close and has a B&M invert and some nice wooden coasters. Boss looks really fun.

Palmer, I know a lot of people that have ridden El Toro and think a GCI is better. Personally, I think El Toro looks like the best wooden coaster in the world, but the point is GCIs are still really good...and GAdv could use another wooden coaster in the next few years.

palmer
04-09-2010, 08:50 PM
^I'm being honest here, I don't think so. Rolling Thunder is old, and I can clearly see that. But it always has a line, at the stairs on the left side and the first or second row in the switchback on the right side. They have little problems here and there, but Rolling Thunder is in a fine condition and would ben nice. And GADV got El Toro in '06. So, GADV was running on only with one wooden coaster. Maybe 10 years from now we can see Rolling Thunder out and GCI, if it's still around, or something like that coming to the park. And GADV doesn't need 3 wooden coasters. It bad enough there isn't themeing at the park. Terrain woodies would never happen, or happen and have no terrain and lose the point of being considered a terrain woodie.

Austin
04-09-2010, 08:58 PM
3 woodies are actually not that bad. Look at Holiday World, the mecca of woodies. All three of them are always filled, especially Voyage. And keep in mind, they also have one of the top 5 waterparks and its always filled. In GADV's case switch the waterpark out for the other coasters. It would work definitely and keep lines full on rides and it would bring in thousands of people more each year.

palmer
04-09-2010, 09:28 PM
^I wouldn't. HH only opened in '01. Only 10 years isn't that long at all. HH is finally getting something new. Plus the waterpark is far from the park, sort of. There's a road which is the only one that gets to both the park and Safari. Plus, adding more woodies can be good, but it can be bad. Maybe in GADV's market, it's good because they have SFNE, which main woodie is the Cyclone, and Dorney, which has Thunderhawk, out there. Maybe taking advantage would be good for them. GCI isn't that bad. Yet, you also have to put in prospective that GADV got a woodie recently. Maybe some steel would be in the future of GADV coasters.

Changsucks
04-09-2010, 10:01 PM
You're getting too caught up in a "wooden coaster count". I take back what I said when I said "GAdv could use another wooden coaster". It really doesn't matter if it's a wooden coaster or not, but when GAdv gets another coaster, which you know it will in at least three years, I think a GCI is a good idea. I didn't say Rolling Thunder had to come out or that the GCI would be a terrain coaster, they're just great rides and are also family friendly.

Austin

HH? Whats that?

bobbinbop20
04-09-2010, 10:38 PM
HH? Whats that?

Hurricane Harbor!!

And personally I think El Toro is amazing, but it isn't exactly cheap, GCI's are cheap and that's what Six Flags is into right now.... I would have much rather gotten Evel Knievel at SFGAm for $7 Million unstead of the Dark Knight for $7 Million....

GCI's are the next best thing compared to El Toro, I even like Terminator almost as much as El Toro, because even though GCI's are small they pack tons of quick little pops of airtime and lots of really funky little curves that actually make the ride experience alot better then you would think. El Toro is big and fast and even though GCI's stats dont make them seem fast, there low to the ground elements make the ride seems fast and intense when your actually on it

Austin
04-09-2010, 10:59 PM
If I had to pick between GCI or GG its definately GG. When they start putting their Timberliners on all their coasters once Voyage shows how great they are then that little extra bit of money shouldnt matter lol.

When i said HH I thought he was talking about HW my bad lol.

bobbinbop20

I'm a bit sceptacle about those Timberliners... they just don't seem as padded or comfortable as GCI trains, but who am I to judge because I haven't even sat in them yet

04-09-2010, 11:26 PM
I personally think El Toro is amazing. I've never been on anything like it, and it really can't be beat, I think a GCI would do very well at GADV, they can't act like it's the next El Toro. If they advertise it as a coaster for families, then I can see it being very succesful.

Now I think that's enough discussion about GADV in this thread. If you would like to continue this discussion, then you are more than welcome to start a thread for it in the coaster section.

They look Comfortable. But the innovations they bring to the table it shouldnt feel too different. Shock absorption, steering through the track, and better fitting lap bars (wont go down too far or dont come down enough and giving you more room to "float")and no more seat belts since it meets higher safety standards.

All of that just makes me wonder how much it could change rough coasters like SOB and Mean Streak. Too bad this wasnt done last year, it might have saved Six Flags most of the 10 million spent for the rehab on Texas Giant if they liked what they saw.

And did I mention it will make it all faster? lol.
