With the operating season approaching for most theme parks I'm going to begin updates weekly again or like NPN, daily news updates and fun stuff and then a "weekly rewind" to sum things up. To start phasing in though we will start with weekly updates from the site, industry, parks and other newsworthy updates.
APA
Index Expansion
We have been hard at work on this and since the announcement we have completed 3 of the four main goals we set and have internally announced phase 5 and phase 6 as well as other features that other index's currently do not have and will make viewing it 100x better and easier. Phase four is going to begin this week and will wrap up shortly after since it is only waterparks.
Training
We are still working to get a set date on closing to get the training finished. I have the training plan set up and once we get the date set it wont take long until its finished.
Temporary Closing on 4/2/10
We closed momentarily around midnight after receiving a email from a software vendor notifying us that a security hole has been found in one of their products and issued a new update to the software. It went pretty quickly and only kept the site down for about 10-15 minutes at the most.
Six Flags Fan Call
APA was well represented in the call by Shayne and Nitrofan. The whole thing turned out pretty well and you can find the transcript from the chat and our discussion on the chat here (http://sfkkonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=489).
Mock Draft Contest
I'm going to be hosting our own little mock draft here on APA. It will be set up like Coaster Wars but with different rules and slightly different set up. I will release more details later but I plan on running the contest two days to three days before the first round of the draft (first round is on a Friday the rest are on the weekend). I will supply information regarding how to pick players, team needs and other items on the thread.
Industry News
B&M
Gardaland has plans to build the prototype from B&M which many are calling their version of S&S's 4D coaster. Sounds Interesting if you ask me.
Little Dipper
The famous kiddie coaster from Kiddieland has now gone vertical in SFGAm. It has been about 90% replaced but still uses a few of its old wood which doesnt make sense to me if you already replaced 90% of it and the fact its in a horrible condition from rot and deterioration. It should be completed in the next 2-4 weeks.
Sky Rocket
Sky Rocket has officially gone vertical at Kennywood and will be completed in the next month. A good size portion has already went up and looks pretty nice from what I can tell.
Intimidator
Intimidator has officially opened at Carowinds to excellent reviews. Could it possibly be better than Diamondback?
Intimidator 305
The one we all thought would do the worst is actually being called the best. According to TPR's Robb Alvey it "craps all over Millennium Force". Alot of people report graying out so ride at your own risk.
Six Flags America Changes
SFA opened last week and had quite a few cosmetic updates to it. Heres the list:
A new cardmember entrance
A fresh coat of paint on Superman - Ride of Steel
Huge new umbrellas over many of the tables in the park's various food courts
New "Meet and Greet" stages where children can meet their favorite Looney Tunes characters
Improvements to the Looney Tunes Movie Stage
New fencing around many of the rides
Improvements to the Heritage House Food Court
New shows and entertainment
Helicopter Rides at Six Flags Theme Parks
The program has partnered with Whirl Helicopter to bring helicopter rides to the following parks this year: Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Over Texas, and Six Flags Magic Mountain.
It will cost you $25 but you will ascend to 500ft hover there and then return to the ground.
Darien Lake Announces SplashTown
Darien Lake has announced earlier last week that it will beuild SplashTown waterpark for 2010. SplashTown Waterpark will be an all new separate gate facility next to the theme park.
SplashTown will utilize the existing water park, while adding "three all-new attractions, an additional 5 acres of completely new park space, a new bathhouse, new food and beverage options, new landscaping, more deck and lounging space, and new cabanas."
The new attractions will be provided by Aquatic Development Group and Proslide.
Well thats it for this weeks updates. Be on the lookout for the mock draft contest if your interested. It will certainly be different from most if all goes according to plan.
