Coaster Wars 2.0!

This game is a pretty cool game that we coaster nerds will probably enjoy. There will be 2 teams of 2-4 people, or more or less, depending on participation. Each team will represent a Theme Park Chain. I will post a category (ex: Wooden Coasters) and through PM, the members of a team will decide which coaster from their chain to use as their play. You will have 24 hours from the time I post the category to the time your play is due. You can only use a coaster once in the game, and there will be as many rounds in the chain as I say there are. I will decide which coaster wins, but I will change it up sometimes. There may be a poll 1 round, I might ask a random member another. You never know.

This game will be Cedar Fair vs. Six Flags. Post in this thread if you would like to play, and I will assign teams.

That's a good idea.

I may make another team with a large list of parks that aren't in a huge chain to play as a third team. Parks like Kennywood, Dollywood, Nick Universe, Lake Compounce, etc.

I spread the staff members out evenly and no staff member is a team leader just to spread the authority a little. The parks that the "Other Parks" team can use are listed on the first post of the thread.

To win a round, your coaster must meet each of the following:

1. The coaster operated at least once in 2009 or is a new coaster for 2010.

2. The coaster must be located in a park assigned to your team.

3. Your team leader must post the coaster name and a picture of the coaster with proper credit given if it is not your picture. (a link to the site you got it from).

4. The coaster must best meet the category or win the form of judging for the round.


Right now, each team must PM each other and agree on a team name. I am working with Austin to get team chat rooms worked out right now. As soon as each team leader posts their team name in this thread and we have the chat rooms worked out (this should be tomorrow), the first round will begin.

Just a quick reminder on how to play. I will name a category from which you must choose the coaster that is the best in that category or the coaster that best fits that category. To decide, you and your team mate can either PM ideas or use your chat room. Your team leader will then post the coaster your team decides on in this thread by the designated time that entries are due. You will have at least 48 hours to post, but the judging will begin early if all entries are posted early. How the entries are judged is decided randomly by me and will change each round.

For each round that your team wins, you will get a point. If you miss a round due to a coaster not being turned in on time, your team will lose a point. If you are not a team leader and your team leader has not posted and it is less than 4 hours from the deadline, any team member may post a coaster, even if your team has not discusses a coaster choice. A losing coaster is better than losing a point for no coaster.

If you do not have chat room passwords yet or you have any questions about the chat rooms, send Austin a Private Message (PM) for the password info.

I will be riding Intimidator next week, so I'm going to be personally judging after my ride to be fair.

Better? Orlando is your typical fle ride. San Diego's is a actual water coaster. Ill take a coaster over flume any day.

Orlando's is a dark ride, but it has a coaster section and 2 drops separate from the coaster part.

Both coasters do basically the same thing. SWO's just has a lot more theming (SWSD's barely has any) and SWSD has an extra spiral in the coaster section.

And Jp and I were already thinking of Skull Mountain.

This round was judged by me. My decision is:

Perilous Plunge

Here is my reasoning:
Skull Mountain: You were very close to Perilous Plunge because it was from Six Flags and themed and I was impressed by the ride. Now I feel that Six Flags missed the boat a little and could have made the theming much better without much effort (ex: hiding cords and pipes that they had running straight through theme elements). It was a hard decision for me and it came very close between you and Perilous Plunge, but because of this ride's faults, Perilous Plunge came ahead.
Journey to Atlantis: As I posted earlier in this thread, why did you choose this version of JTA? The one in Orlando is clearly the best with the great theming, 2 drops, and a coaster portion. While the coaster isn't the majority of the ride like the San Diego version, I thought the Orlando version was a better representation of a water attraction and I believe the Orlando version is better.
Perilous Plunge: Really all I can say is, this ride looks freakin' amazing! I really can't even believe this is a water ride! The drop looks insane, and I really wish more of these could be built if Intamin ever fixes all the issues with it. Really the only downfall that made it so close to Skull Mountain is that it is just a bare-bones ride with no theming.

2 teams did not participate, so they both lost a point. COME ON GUYS! This is The Average Joes' 2nd missed turn!

Also, after riding Intimidator, I have a winner for round 1. I personally was disappointed in Intimidator, so X2 wins!

Didnt put in a answer last week because I got too busy working. Broke a door, fixed it, put a new towel bar up and then played paintball and got shot by a ranger from ft. Knox (Like thats fair, their professionals, and he had a scope!) in the neck and back of the head.

Oh well thats still a clone and one completely different ride but Six Flags and CF still have us beat. Tatsu will easily out do Manta and every park has the batman clone just about. Plus theres nitro, intimidator, DBack and others.

Average Joes go with mystery Mine at Dollywood. It is one of two Euro-Fighters in North America that I know of at least. Picked this because we need to win, its a rare coaster, and its got extensive themeing that plays into the story.
