Nice job finding this one. Well, that is good for SFA's part in a "family-friendly" park. Yet, sooner or later, they need a coaster. Something big.

I think it's a good idea, but I've heard that they will be taking several rides from around the park and moving them here rethemed to Thomas Town. I don't have a problem with kiddie areas, they just shouldn't be the only place to get on kids rides. SFA has a nice mix of kids rides near most coasters, and it sounds like this may be the end of that.

Those fountains are a BAD IDEA! Thomas Town at SFMM has those fountains and there were a bunch of naked 2 year old kids running through the fountains when I was there.

a former SFKK ride supervisor said that in 2009, the park was supposed to reopen TT when 100% new wood and track, and also there was supposed to be a thomas town last season. I wouldn't be surprise if some of those rides at SFA are where meant to be here in Louisville last year.

All Aboard for More Family Fun! Six Flags America to Open Thomas TownSM in 2010

Maryland theme park to be home to North America’s largest permanent destination based on Thomas & Friends™

Six Flags America, the Nation's Capital of MORE FLAGS and MORE FUN today announces details of Thomas TownSM, a new family entertainment area based on the popular Thomas & Friends™ brand. Thomas Town is the park's largest expansion in over a decade and will feature eight rides and attractions and a new retail store and a new character. Opening this summer, Six Flags America's Thomas Town will be the largest Thomas Town in North America.

"Thomas & Friends have entertained and educated more than three generations with messages of teamwork and friendship," said John Winkler, Six Flags America park president. "Now families who visit the park will have a new, permanent, place — the largest in North America — to enjoy and interact with these wonderful characters. We are delighted to welcome Thomas Town to Six Flags America and offer our guests more ways to experience family-friendly fun together."

Gary Krakower, senior vice president for consumer products and live events at HIT Entertainment, parent company of Thomas & Friends, said, "We are thrilled to be working with Six Flags theme parks, as they have an outstanding reputation for providing quality family amusements. The wholesome appeal of Thomas & Friends comes to life at Thomas Town and allows children to experience the themes of discovery, perseverance and friendship that are synonymous with the Thomas & Friends brand."

Encompassing more than three and a half acres of the popular theme park, the cornerstone of
Thomas Town will be a train ride on a Thomas the Tank Engine™ replica that will take guests on a journey through Thomas' mythical home on the Island of Sodor. Other new rides and attractions in the all-new Thomas Town include:

•Harold the Helicopter — Kids can control how high they can fly through the air above Thomas Town in their very own helicopter.
•Cranky the Crane Tower Ride — Guests will enjoy high-flying family thrills on this unique,
30-foot drop tower on Cranky the Crane.
•Bertie the Bus Ride — Bertie the Bus takes riders on an unforgettable trip as they go round and round and high into the sky.
•Diesel Derby — Guests join the parade of train cars moving through Thomas Town.
•Sodor Carnival Ferris Wheel — Guests of every age will experience Carnival Fun on the Island of Sodor while riding this classic Ferris wheel.
•Thomas Town Play Structure — This multi-level play area is themed with Thomas & Friends character images and features slides, climbing areas, and interactive fun!
•Thomas Town Pop Jet Fountain — Children and children-at-heart can take a break and cool off in this delightful pop-jet water feature.

In addition to these fun rides and attractions, Sir Topham Hatt, Controller of the Railway — a new character at Six Flags America — will greet visitors and pose for photos throughout the day. The Knapford Station Shop, the park’s first retail location since 2005, will feature themed merchandise, including the popular Thomas & Friends die cast trains, apparel, and storybooks.

The addition of Thomas Town will nearly double the number of thrilling family attractions at Six Flags America. The park is also home to LOONEY TUNES Movie Town with rides, shows, and attractions; and Crocodile Cal’s Caribbean Beach House and Buccaneer Beach, both located in Hurricane Harbor water park.

With more than 100 awe-inspiring rides, games, shows, and family attractions, Six Flags America is the Mid-Atlantic's premier destination for family fun. The park boasts seven thrilling roller coasters — headlined by the hyper-coaster SUPERMAN: Ride of Steel, one of the tallest coasters on the East Coast and BATWING, Maryland's first flying coaster. Hurricane Harbor features slides and splashes for thrill seekers of every age, including the six-story funnel of FUN Tornado and Hurricane Bay, one of the largest wave pools in the United States. Six Flags America theme park opens Saturday, March 27 and is open for Spring Break through Monday, April 5, then weekends in April and May, with daily operation resuming Memorial Day weekend. Hurricane Harbor begins its season on Saturday, May 22.

Six Flags America offers family-friendly value all season long with a 2010 Season Pass. Passholders enjoy unlimited admission to Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor Water Park as well as receive exclusive benefits, including free tickets for friends and more than $300 in savings on in-park food and fun. You do realize CEO's and COO's dont make too many decisions on hours don't you? It would be different if this was a retail store that had set hours at their stores but these parks have hours tailored to their community. The hours are fair from what I see. Its called decentralization.

I don't have much knowledge on the direct decisions the COO/CEO make, but from what they have released in conference calls, Weber wants hours cut, and that's exactly what happened. He may not have personally set the hours, but he definately had some input in them.

Not only did they cut hours, but they also say they want to stop giving cheap tickets. That's fine, but I expect something for that extra money I'm paying. If I have to buy a more expensive season pass, I do not expect to lose the entire month of September and only have the park open until 6 or 7 in June and August when it was previously open until 8.

Austin

Well There has to be someway to recoup money from the investments to put towards the future also. I think the prices are pretty fair honestly. As a comparison Holiday World's ticket prices are around 40 a person, and 100 for a season pass. But they still manage to reach new record attendance even in this economy so if parks are good enough people will still pay to come to them.

Decentralization is probably the best business strategy out there. As a comparison Ford almost failed because Henry Ford was afraid to let his managers to make any decisions then Chevy came in with decentralization and they were pretty productive and made Ford change his mind.

Exactly, I think that parks should make their own decisions. The hours of the parks released so far are getting closer together. SFMM had hours cut all summer as well as SFA. When every park has hours cut, it is clearly corporate making the decision.

You can compare some Six Flags parks to Holiday World, but you really can't compare parks like SFMM that are in much more competitive areas to Holiday World. Six Flags has their place as the cheap entertainment. Right now, I think their prices are fair for what they offer. If they raise their prices, they better improve in many areas because I will be a lot less willing to deal with their crap if they become expensive.

Slide the Amazon on Six Flags America’s new Zoomazon Falls
Maryland’s best theme park announces 2011 attractions

Maryland’s best theme and water park just got better, faster, more spectacular, and wetter as Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor pulls back the rainforest canopy to introduce Zoomazon Falls and opens the curtains on four sensational new shows!

This summer at Hurricane Harbor water park, guests leave the inner tubes behind as they climb to the top of an Amazonian-themed forest at Zoomazon Falls. There, they’ll take in a spectacular view before choosing their descent path on one of four, twisting, turning, body slides, each enhanced by waterfalls, tropical décor, jungle soundtracks, and more. Zoomazon Falls features more than a half-mile of wild, watery excitement.

Zoomazon Falls joins 15 “splash-tastic” water attractions at Hurricane Harbor, including Hurricane Bay, one of the world’s largest wave pools, the six-story funnel of fun Tornado, and two areas for little splashers: Crocodile Cal’s Caribbean Beach House and Buccaneer Beach. In 2010, Six Flags America upgraded the 70,000 square-foot pool deck and added shading around Hurricane Bay, plus introduced a new daily song and dance show to create a resort-style oasis for its guests.

This newly-announced slide project marks the latest addition to Maryland’s best theme park for the 2011 season. Six Flags America also announces four new stage spectaculars coming this season:

• SURVIVORTM LIVE!- Survivor is going live! Be prepared to travel to an island far away as the Emmy Award-winning reality show ignites on stage in this interactive adventure! This cutting-edge show highlights the best in music and choreography and features state-of-the-art sets and lavish costumes. Opens Friday, May 27.

• Bob the BuilderTM Live at Six Flags America - Join Bob the Builder™ and the Can-Do Crew as they call on the assistance of the builders in the audience for a very special project! With a little singing, dancing, building, and a whole lot of fun, this team is sure to get the job done! Opens Friday, May 27.

• Turn Up the Heat- Summertime at Six Flags America gets hotter than ever in this sizzling explosion of suntan-inspiring music and dance! Classic summer hits are given a contemporary makeover as they mash together with current pop culture to create a totally new, unique sound. Opens Saturday, May 28.

• Blundering Buccaneers Stunt Show- Pirate Red Rob causes chaotic mischief at the expense of the rest of the fleet in high-energy, comedic, stunt show adventure that is sure to inspire and amaze. Opens Saturday, April 16.

"We are pleased to give our guests even more thrills this summer at Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor as we introduce Zoomazon Falls and four brand new shows," said John Winkler, Six Flags America park president. “We’ve made a commitment to the Baltimore and Washington, DC region to continue to expand our entertainment offerings and make Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor the best place to spend the summer. This year’s new additions further that momentum.”

Located just 15 minutes west of Annapolis, MD and a short drive from Baltimore and Washington, DC, Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor is Maryland’s best theme and water park and premier destination for family fun. This giant park features world-class roller coasters, children’s areas, thrilling daily stage shows, and other attractions that make Six Flags America a true family destination with something for everyone!

2012 will be 11 years since the park's last coaster. It better be something major. I really like Skull Mountain, and I really hope that they place something in its place that justifies losing Skull Mountain. I wish they would have put the new addition in one of their many empty fields scattered throughout the park, but I'm ok with this if something good is added.

On a separate note, I rode Zoomazon Falls this past sunday (the second day they were open) and 2 of the slides were closed! I'm glad that they decided to reopen this complex and it looks really nice, but being 50% closed on the second day they are open is not a good sign.

Remember if you are going this Sunday to get the last ride in for Skull Island, the ride will close at 7:00pm... Maybe they are closing the ride early at 7 not at 9 when the park closes because they want to get rid of the ride like they did for the last night of GASM.

They're probably going to put a fence up or something shortly after closing...

I'll try to get out to SFA for an update next week.

When it first opened, it was a very heavily themed water coaster. Over the years, the ride had maintnance problems (although it works fine all day everytime I visit) and much of the theming broke or was removed.

You can check out pictures of the ride here:
