It's no secret that SFKK's operation hours aren't even close to those of most parks in the Six Flags chain, but why? SFKK operates 11:00-7:00 most nights in the summer, when major parks operate 10:30-10:00 and most others 10:30-9:00. Do you think that they should have hours compatible to most of the chain?

Austin
11-03-2009, 11:15 PM
No lol. Most people dont get up until 11 or 12 on the weekend so its a good time. Plus its got something to do with the public school system here i think, and maybe even the KEC.

I was just pointing out that they open later than most other parks. You may not get up until around 11 or 12 but by then, half the day is already gone, and it leaves only the afternoon and early evening to enjoy the park. It just seems strange to me. Do they want to limit when people can bring them money?

How would the school system affect summer hours?

Austin
11-03-2009, 11:29 PM
It doesnt affect summer hours, they actually stay open later in summer. Plus the fact that you can get through the park in less then 2-3 hours doesnt really bother me. And its more money they have to pay to employees and etc. Its a cheap and smart move.

yeah, im sure they have tested out longer hours before, well actually I really have no idea if they have. Plus its not really the biggest park in the chain and you can get everything done there in the time there open. I'm sure its way cheaper for them to be paying employees for a shorter amount of time

Back then the park use to open from 10-10 on sat, and 11-8 sun-fri. Also 12pm-12am for fright fest. It changed after 2006. The park attracted many ppl early in the morning and at night. Many would line up outside the park gate shortly after 9am. I forgot why the hours change.

The reason the hours are the way they are is in this statement. It would be unwise (financially at least) and not needed to stay open longer than that for the time being.

Yes exactly, when I was there at end of May It took about an hour and a half to get all the credits, would have been shorter but GL opened a tad late.

You could easily plan a whole day there without doing anything coaster related at all, but still you wouldn't need the whole day.

Austin

Id say i take about 2 hours to get through everything with me riding a ride multiple times and then moving on. Really its only a problem in any way when there is a concert or event at the park. When toby mac came Thunder Run had a 1 hour+ wait.

Holy Christ

Well I guess that could also be because it only has one train, but still...

Austin
11-04-2009, 11:09 PM
Yeah. They should have built that transfer track section when it was built.

I completely agree, It would be greatly enjoyed by many

Austin

They probably still could. Just have to make sure the walkway below was clear of guests before it was started. Its a win-win lol. You get the addition of a second train, and you get a covered walkway sorta when it rains lol.

Haha, yeah I dont see why they would invest money in it now though. It appears that there quite ok with one train operation.

Austin
11-04-2009, 11:23 PM
But why be just ok Lol. I know they dont really need multi-train ops for any of the coasters except road runner. T2 tho comes in handy when theres concerts or events.

bobbinbop20
11-04-2009, 11:30 PM
^yep they choose to be mediocre with most things, and not to be hating on T2 or anything but I really cant stand SLC's, they sound so smooth and look beautiful but when you get on one it just beats you around, I think I nearly broke my back the one time I rode T2.

Austin
11-04-2009, 11:42 PM
Hopefully the park will upgrade its main train. I dont find T2 rough at all though.

bobbinbop20
11-04-2009, 11:47 PM
Maybe it was having a bad day when I was there or something, but I have a "I only ride SLC's in the front row" policy. I'm hoping im doing it right and thats the smoothest spot on T2?!

Austin
11-04-2009, 11:59 PM
I actually believe the 2nd or 3rd row is the smoothest. But thats just me lol.

bobbinbop20
11-05-2009, 04:27 PM
^ok, so maybe I am doing it all wrong!

Austin
11-05-2009, 05:02 PM
But of course, im 240 pounds so the coaster has alot to move lol.

Austin

I dont think the hours will bother many though

8pm closings on every Saturday of the season? Really?

Not during the fair ;).... and it's the same hours as this past season, correct?

Austin
12-05-2009, 07:24 PM
It is? i never noticed last years. i guess they're fair enough though.

Vic
12-05-2009, 09:07 PM
yea... they are the same as last years hours. At least summer hours are. I didn't pay attention to april/may/sept/oct but i am sure those are the same too.

Exactly...what happened to Shapiro's "extended hours?" The park closes no later...and opening day is not earlier than last year's.

Well at least they SFKK doesn't make a huge deal about extended hours in the park and in their marketing like SFA did. I don't know what their previous hours were, but they made a huge deal about extended hours for the 2009 season (signs in the park, ads on SFTV, etc.) and they had 8pm closings all through July. That just makes the short hours seem even worse.

I really just think that the early closings are unacceptable. After dark is the best time to enjoy theme parks IMO, especially when they really start to come to life like at some parks. They are missing the parents taking their kids after work too with the early closings. When I lived in San Antonio, my dad would get home from work and we would go to Six Flags every wednesday from 6-10 during the summer. It made me come to love Six Flags.

I'm not a local to SFKK and the park only being open from 11-7 makes it harder for me to justify special trips to go.

01-26-2010, 10:54 PM
Why would you need it open until 10? Its wasting money when they need to save it. You can ride everything in under 2 hours.

It really makes more money. Teens and young adults make there way to the parks late at night like at the state fair for example and kings island.

Austin
01-26-2010, 10:58 PM
Theres more expense to operating at night tho.

sccard01
01-27-2010, 04:31 PM
and how is that?

Austin
01-27-2010, 04:37 PM
Well you have to pay a larger salary, Higher electric bill for outdoor lighting that you wouldn't have int he current hours. Most people come during the early afternoon for the waterpark which when we had hours up to 10 the waterpark closed when it got dark so alot of people will leave. Sure some people will come but not very many.

sccard01
01-27-2010, 04:55 PM
When the waterpark closed at 8 back then, most people, or everyone will go to the dry side of the park and ride rides after dark or whatever. Light bill isn't a problem, there is only one major ride that require lights and that is the giant wheel. The giant wheels lighting stays on every single hour when the park is operating in the daytime just to let you know If you have not notice. Also the rides in the Looney Tunes Movie Town. So basically the lights stay on during park hours all the time.

Appearently you have never seen Southwest Territory at SFGAm at 7:00, appearently you have never seen Crackaxle Canyon at SFFT at 7:00. Raging Bull had a 45 minute line all day when I was at SFGAm and it was a 2 hour line from about 7 to 9. Fiesta Texas is the same way. A lot of people spend the day at the water park then ride coasters for a couple hours after it gets dark. It would be a great advertising tecnique for SFKK to keep people at the park for more than the 2 hours you say people will stay.

Austin
01-27-2010, 05:02 PM
Well you haven't been to the park at night when we had our old hours either, thats all im saying.

Austin
01-27-2010, 05:13 PM
I do know what I am talking about and kid? Im old enough to have been to the park when they had night time hours. I dont like drop towers and i dont like stand ups. So i guess since i never rode them im going to hell according to you.

Stop flaming and get back to the topic.

sccard01
01-27-2010, 05:16 PM
It must of been on the night when you was at the park when it wasn't crowded, prolly the night of hell lmao

Austin
01-27-2010, 05:24 PM
Well we haven't had very many night time days recently except closing day. It was fun but there was really not alot of people there as i remember.

Btw for future reference, Ive been sick and its really making me frustrated so I can get pissed off a bit and make it seem like im trying to flame and etc but I really dont mean it unless someone intentionally makes me mad. Slowly recovering tho, didnt go to the dr since I thought it was just allergies -.- but anyway, sorry for everything that went down last night.

I know that, But all last season the park just ran the lights on the Giant Wheel throughout the whole season until frightfest which was kinda odd.

We did that alot because the Pilot light kept going out. Plus grounds likes to turn it on at night when they work.
