I hate when the teachers, put the grades in, in the last minute for the Report Cards!

I got report cards last week. I hate how all the teachers feel a need to assign tons of work right before report cards.

Yes, that what my english teacher is doing tomorrow. I got to turn in a big essay. Got to take a Vocab Test, and the book we are reading "A Rasin In The Sun" test.

So did you know him before you joined the site or did you meet him on he site and it was just a coincidence that you are both in the same math class?

Yeah, our schedule is ridiculous, but it is all starting to pay off. We go to nationals next week. We have a week at the end of july of practices 8am-noon all week, then the next week is 8am-9pm. That week is KILLER! After that we had another week of 8am-noon, then we went to our normal schedule which is 4-8 every monday, tuesday, and thursday after school. Most fridays we have to play at a football game, and we either have an all day practice (8am-9pm) or competition almost every saturday.

3 more days for me to. Todays gonna be easy, go to school for 3 hours, take my 25 question Chemistry test (all eqautions X.X not going to end well) then leave at 10:50 since im exempt from my English finals). Tomorrow take my algebra 2 (not going to end well either) and my theatre arts final. Tuesday take my US History final (piece of cake) and my Advanced Computer Applications final.

I dont really need to take the finals but it gives me something to do and i could use the help in Algebra.

In other news my School's Varsity Boys Bowling team (the one I'm on) Won the Section V tournament and is advancing to the state FINALS!!!!!!!!

Greece Arcadia wins Section V, advances to states
Sandy Swingle and the G***** Arcadia boys bowling team knew they had clinched the Section V Class B team title Friday at AMF Gates Lanes.

Still up in the air was the overall title and the berth in the state tournament. Trailing by 72 pins entering the final game of the day, the Titans knew they had to finish strong to top Class A front-runner Penfield.

The Titans closed with a 971, finished early, and were able to watch the Patriots complete their final five frames. Penfield totaled 899 in the final game, giving Arcadia the overall team title by a single pin (6,265 to 6,264).

"I think that they kept their composure the whole time and executed each shot one at a time," said Swingle, who started the Arcadia boys program in 2000. "I told them it was 60 frames and that they needed to execute one shot, one frame at a time. I told them not to get too high or too low. I am just thrilled to death for them."

Experience helped the Titans to their first sectional title since 2005. Eric Moore had a 1,321 six-game series and Tyler Meyer added a 1,309 six-game series. Junior Kevin Christie finished with 1,309 and senior Zack Reynolds chipped in 1,291.

Senior Adam Shepard had a 536 in the three-game morning set and eighth-grader Garrett Caulkins closed out the day with a 499 set.

Penfield claimed the Class A title and Penn Yan was victorious in Class C (6,226). Bishop Kearney rounded out the team winners in Class D (5,578). Hilton's Jimmy Wagner and Bishop Kearney's Alex Triassi each shot a 1,411 to earn high series honors for the day.

Arcadia advances to the state tournament next month at Strikes and Spares Lanes in Syracuse.

There is so much waste in the education system and the time isn't used wisely. They don't need more hours, they just need to use the hours that they have school more wisely.

True. I do feel like our high school's are not preparing kids for college. Well at least mine didn't. They talked about how you need to have a major picked or think about what you want to do but they never really discussed tips on how to deal with college life. Like having to read almost daily. Sure its extra time but for kids looking for higher education, the time will be well spent. It doesnt have to be like another class or an extra hour a day. Something like a 2-3 time a year event that discusses the challenges of college, how to come up with a plan for success, and ways to manage stress etc. for first year college students.

If that happens I think we can see kids doing better in college and that in turn leads to a better educated society (of those that attended some form of college) because they aren't failing their classes in college because they aren't prepared for the real college life.

Something should be done, and it starts mostly with the teachers. Most are too relaxed. Some don't give near as much homework to reinforce what your taught in class. But its too hard to get rid of clearly bad teachers because of teachers unions. Its just a messed up system. I hope one day it gets improved but I don't know. I was thankful to at least get into one of the top academic schools in Louisville.

nitrofan
08-21-2011, 02:17 AM
I agree that bad teachers need to go, but I'm not sure I agree with the thought that schools should give more homework in order to prepare students for college. In high school, you sit there for 8 hours a day. That probably waste at least 2 hours of that day, probably more. You leave, and you have 2 hours of homework to do (at least at my school), plus extra-curriculars, possibly a job, and something that you enjoy. There is only so much time in the day, and when they completely control you for 8 hours a day, they do not need to give you more than 2 hours of work to do after you leave. Now I know college gives you more work than that, but they don't completely control you all day. You go to each class a few times a week, and have lots of time when you could be doing the work.

Changsucks
08-21-2011, 02:51 AM
Homework is usually pointless. Most teachers just give out busy work and it doesn't benefit us at all, it just wastes our time.

Austin
08-21-2011, 10:33 AM
But the difference in college is that for every one in hour in class, your expected to spend 2 to 3 hours outside of class studying. So if your going full time (12 credit hours) thats 36 hours. Might not seem like much but its stressful if you want to get good grades in all classes. Your expected to go to class, sit and take notes while the teacher lectures all class period. Then go home study your notes, read the book, and try to read ahead for the next class. And thats just one class.

You really cant have a 4 hour part time job or something if you go full time. If you do then your spending your nights working, morning to around 1PM at school and between 1 and later on in the day when you go to work is your time to study and read for 4 classes. And that doesnt account for other things you do in life. Say your active in your church. Sunday mornings from around 9:30 to noon & Wednesdays for an hour and if they are having a event, thats more lost time.

Its all opportunity cost really.

Ok, so that's 48 hours of doing school work a week. There are 168 hours in a week. If you get 8 hours of sleep a day, that is 112 hours a week that you are awake. Once you take out your 48 hours of school work, that leaves you with 64 hours of awake time without school work... Now I know some of that time will be used for getting to and from class, getting ready in the morning, and you probably have other activities, but you could still work part time, or even full time if you really wanted to (I know working full-time is very difficult, but I've heard of people doing it).

I can't wait til Oct. 1st when I finish up my Intro to College class. Which is entirely pointless. Thanks for teaching me how to use the school's website? I would have never learned how to do that on my own.

My school had that, but you could get out of it if you were in Band, so I dind't have to take it. Everyone said it was a real pain. Appearently they made you do a bunch of "practice projects and papers" that they graded really harshly in order to "prepare you for the rigorous standards of high school". So basically just a bunch of very time consuming busy work.

I dont see the point in an intro to college or HS class. Your going to get used to it within like 2 weeks. If you can't do things on your own then I really don't have high hopes for your future. Plus this class really just distracts from real classes. So thanks for wasting my time :)

Well later in the day when they did all the testing on the grenade, and it was fake! So, he didn't get any charges for that but he got a charge for third degree felony of tempering with a government record. They are saying he might not be a US Citizen! lol
