View Full Version : Should the Water Park get expanded?

In recent years, the water park has been getting all of the glory over the theme park, and with the rumored expansion, it may get even bigger as the theme park continues to be neglected. The clear reason for this is that water slides are much cheaper than roller coasters, but if you are going to be a theme/water park combination, you need to expand both equally or with more weight on the theme park, in my opinion.

What do you think about the continued water park expansions while the theme park is continually neglected?

Meh, Maybe a little not much....A body slide here and a another slide here and it will be enough. But in a business perspective I wish SF would make SFKK a water park only park (Trust me I don't want it to happen)

With the airport blocking the building of very tall rides, and given the land-locked predicament of SFKK because of the Kentucky Expo Center it makes perfect since to make the park mainly a Water Park. While this is in no way a popular move, it is a very smart move.

The land and area is perfect for a very large water park, and with all the available land on the outside of the city, it isn't hard to see how a dry park wouldn't eventually be placed to the South of the city once Six Flags is back on it's feet.

I think that the water park is good as it is. The only thing SFKK needs water related is a water coaster like Mile High Falls. We need another coaster because we only have 3 big ones. We need another wooden coaster since the only one we have is Thunder Run. I went to SFKK and an employee told me SFKK is the top park that Six Flags inc is focused on for a new coaster because we only have 3 big ones and SFKK is losing all ratings, and the only reason the park is alive is mainly because of the water park.

Focused on SFKK getting a coaster? I'm going to have to shoot you down there. May be they are, but not exclusively, and I wouldn't guarantee that it wouldn't be another "water coaster" like Deluge is, like ScreamScape was hinting at.

I would say something like a Tony Hawk would be put in for 2010. Whatever the plans are for 2011, I think you'll see some sort of "Phase 1" start this off-season. They'll probably prep the area and add something new, like a TH coaster.

I do for one doubt that it will be like the coaster in St. Louis if they put one in.

Also, there is LOTS of room back in Northwest Territory, regardless if they want to remove Mile High Fall or Twisted Twins. Most people forget that Top Thrill Dragsters takes up a HUGE amount of space. Think about it, you have the actual space the ride takes up, plus the unused land that runs to Twisted, then the stands + walkway area all the way to the fence. Then you have to include the huge walkway area between the fence and Mile High "inside" Northwest Territory. There is also land to the right of Mile High facing Twisted, lots of land, plus the Stage area, and the Twisted Twins entry way could probably be redesigned for a good acre or 2.

There is also the old employee eating area that could probably be changed into an eating area, allowing them to knock down Blue Moose Cafe, and use that for expansion room.

I also think you'll see Zepplin moved somewhere. That's probably in almost running condition right now. May be where Rainbow was? I'm not sure it would fit in that location though.

I have no idea why the park would even consider removing Chang for a water park expansion when they have all of this room in Northwest Territory. Six Flags confuses me sometimes...

^^SFKK at the top of the list for a coaster? It's possible...

They're not removing Chang.

The amount of money it would cost just to disassemble it properly, let alone transport it would be astronomical. Factor in that it is the parkest biggest attraction, and then include how much it would cost to backfill the land to make water park even possible and you'll understand that someone latched onto some very wrong info.

I agree with the two posts above me. This sounds like a very unreasonable rumor, and I have a feeling that someone was just trying to stir up trouble.

I was thinking along the same lines as nitrofan...why would the park even CONSIDER removing Chang for a waterpark expansion, when they already have two major rides SBNO and plenty of room in the Northwest Territory?

well, I hate to break it to yall... but Chang is sadly being removed for another freiking water park expansion. Just stupid. Who goes there for the water park alone anyway??? Now they just lost their best coaster??? Sad times...

I know... I just registered with this site the day of that post and just wanted the Chang removal speculation to stop, even though I am still distraught over the thought of it.
