I love this park.
I'm glad that this park might get Glow in the Park parade. It's a great, beautiful, family-friendly park, but it is missing an end-of-the-day show. While I have never gotten to see Glow in the Park, it looks like a pretty cool show.

I have. It's much better than other parades, but, of course, Disney wins in parades. Magic Kingdom's night parade is beautiful. And the old MGM/Hollywood Studios parade with the characters on the cars one was good.

This is insane;
"As part of his B96 initiation (since he's the new guy), he must stay locked 285 feet in the air in the Sky Trek Tower during Fright Fest until the 1.5 Millionth rider goes on Raging Bull. Until then, he'll be broadcasting live as well as chronicling his adventures on live streaming video, taped YouTube clips, and updates from Facebook and Twitter."

All i can say is that this is great publicity for SFGA and has gotten me hooked.

Also; there is someone else up there and I think he's bringing him food/water. There is access to inside the tower I believe by standing on the roof of the cabin and opening one of many doors on the side of the tower (you can see the top of the ladder sticking out; there is a recessed area on the top of the cabin for people to walk). That way they can park the cabin with him in it and people can still get to him.

Publicity for B96; for Raging Bull; for freshly-painted Sky Trek Tower; and for the park in general. It brings in money, it works.

Six Flags Great America Purchases Historic Wooden Coaster
Purchase of Classic Wooden Coaster from Kiddieland Amusement Park Keeps Chicago History Alive
Nov. 25, 2009 (Gurnee, Il.) -- Six Flags Great America announced today the purchase of a vintage wooden roller coaster, The Little Dipper. The coaster operated at Kiddieland Amusement Park from 1950 until September of this year when the amusement park closed. The coaster will retain its original name and become the 14th coaster in Six Flags Great America’s impressive line-up of roller coasters.
The Little Dipper was designed by Herbert Schmeck and built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1950. The family-friendly coaster features a three story tall lift hill and is designed as a figure eight track which runs 700 feet in length. It has been honored with the ACE Coaster Classic award by the American Coaster Enthusiasts.
“The Little Dipper has been a fond family tradition for over 50 years,” said Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America’s park president. “We wanted to preserve this important piece of Chicago history for families to experience for many more years to come.”
Guests can create a season of memories on The Little Dipper with a 2010 Season Pass which is on sale now at sixflags.com for the low price of $64.99. Season Passes include admission to the best water park in the nation, Hurricane Harbor; as well as discount-packed value book with more than $500 dollars worth of offers including four Bring-A-Friend-Free tickets.
Six Flags Great America is located between Chicago and Milwaukee and offers fun for the entire family with heart-pounding roller coasters including Raging Bull, a free 15-acre water park, spectacular shows and parades, three children’s themed areas including Wiggles World and meet and greets with Six Flags’ world-famous cast of characters, including Mr. Six.
I am really impressed an happy that Six Flags did this. It should be a hit with the kids, and I will stay happy as long as it doesn't get some stupid Wiggles theme.

I dont know for sure, but I think its going in the Loony Toons National park area, there's tons of open space in there
Since the ride is going to be called Little Dipper and they put it in LTNP area they can do a Marvin the Martian theme to it. When I here Dipper, I think about somthing outer space like.

The ride will be in Bugs Bunny National Park and will keep the Little Dipper name. The large net climb structure to the right of the BBNP entrance will be removed (if it hasn't already). It also looks likely that there will be other changes to BBNP if not a complete retheme/upgrade, since all references to BBNP on SFGAm's website have mysteriously vanished.

^Well, Wiggles world and Loony Tunes Seaport @ SFGADV are connected. Wiggle's World use to be the front part of Loony Tunes Seaport. National Park and Golden Kingdom (excluding Kingda Ka) are "new". They just use to have Seaport and the old Bugs Bunny Land (currently employee parking in Great American Scream Machines in-ground/part of Golden kingdom). They needed it.

Does anyone else not find it odd they replaced between 80-90% of the wood and left the rest as the original?
Six Flags Great America is less than a week away from opening for the 2010 season, and we thought we'd share info that work has already begun on Terror Twister 2 for Fright Fest 2010! We need help deciding on the final song for the ride!
Terror Twister 2: A Turn for the Worse will have 8 tracks in 2010. 7 of these tracks have been picked and already mixed, leaving a final 8th song unknown. As it stands now we have 3 songs that are in the running to become the 8th song - and guess what, the public decides what that song will be!
I know it is extremely early to be discussing Fright Fest, especially on the verge of opening weekend. Simply because it takes an extremely long time to get the light shows prepared in time for Fright Fest, we need to begin work earlier than planned. Terror Twister 2 had 4 tracks last year, with a 5th being added the final weekend of operation. Terror Twister 2 will have 8 tracks in 2010.
Below is a link to the website that is the Terror Twister 2 voting site. Everything is explained on the site, please read it all prior to voting. It will answer all questions you may have. The only limitations are that it requires a Facebook login, and flash player (to stream the 3 songs). You can only vote once. Obviously the song with the most votes will become the 8th track, and become ride cycle #8 for this year.
More information on Terror Twister 2 will become available in the coming months. We sincerely appreciate the help in deciding the final song for 2010.

Update on Little Dipper, expected to open Memorial Day weekend. Support structure is done except the first drop and one small section next to the drop. When finished, only about 10% of the wood will be old wood from Kiddieland.

^that makes sense. That wood must be really really really really old. New wood is easily gonna be needed. Now, SF continues to have that "Open on Memorial Day weekend" stuff. That ticks me off a lot. It clearly shows how lazy they are to build the ride in the off-season (or show how slow they work or how few workers they hire or who they hire). The Bizarro transformations were just sensors, effects, objects, paint, and trains. Easily could have been done quickly (well, the trains probably would take a while, but still, they can do that while they work on the ride). Plus, Bizarro (GADV) was painting before they season was over. The corkscrews were already purple as the season ended.
Austin
04-22-2010, 05:19 PM
It still bugs the hell out of me that they would replace 90% of the wood but leave 20% when they are all just about the same condition as the replaced wood. That 10% will eventually be replaced in the next 2-5 years. Is the price of wood really that high that you cant replace all of it?

I never really understood that either. If I remember correctly, all work on Bizarro with the exception of the painting was done the 3 weeks prior to opening. At a park like SFNE, they really suffered having Bizarro down for that long. The work could have easily been done during the off-season.

Screamscape:
2012 - New Flume Ride - Rumor - (7/19/10) Remember that rumor about a new flume ride in development for the park? ???? - Whizzer Replacement - Rumor - (7/19/10) Lots of interesting rumors were sent in regarding the possible future of SFGAm. This is all more long-term planning rumors, and nothing that is going to happen right away, so all of this can be taken with the grain of salt, as ideas constantly change as time goes by.
First off the disappointing news what we all knew would come someday. Yes… the Whizzer is going to close… someday. I know we’ve heard that rumor almost every year for the last decade or so, but the honest truth is that it is going to happen someday… sooner than we would like to think. It’s well know that the Whizzer is not only old, but difficult to get spare parts for, so most of the time they have to have stuff custom made, which isn’t cheap. The good news however is that in an attempt to be a little proactive, Six Flags is said to have asked Mack to look into recreating the Whizzer’s layout for when the time comes to replace it, they could possibly build an all new version for everyone to enjoy. Again… this is just something rumored to have been looked at, and there is no word if this was something done under Shapiro’s era or Weber’s new regime.
From Screamscape:
2012 - New Flume Ride - Rumor - (7/22/10) According to one reader, they spotted survey crews doing work in the former Splashwater Falls area. Looks like they may be working on something here after all, but for 2012 or 2011?

Why am I think a Aqua Loop? That gives me more of a reason to avoid public waterparks. I love them and all, but I don't want to be taking in any pee-infested water. :D Anyway, I'm not quite sure how big Scorpion's Tail was at Noah's Ark, but from what I can read, I see 130 feet and near vertical. Scorpion's Tail has that "near vertical" drop floor and is about ten stories tall (approx 100 feet). Also, the only ride I could think of it a freefall drop like ones found all over, including HH at SFGAm, or the one like at Wet N' Wild in Orlando with the drop floor. I mean, who wants more clones? I am clearly seeing an Aqua Loop

Well, a 1300 ft expansion would be quite stupid, vertical gives me the hint of a big slide. I'm having this Aqua Loop thing my head, but looking around at Crush N Gusher, Master Blaster, Black Anaconda, and Wildebeest, and I'm thinking a water coaster. From what Black Anaconda and Wildebeest are, they are about 1,700-1,800. I mean 300-400 is but isn't much. I think it's possible that GAm could get one.

Hurricane Harbor is my favorite part about my homepark SFGAm, they have alot of really good slides already and this expansion is putting the icing on the cake, now that the dry park sucks so much they might as well excel in something, and Hurricane Harbor is that something.
Congratulations, you found the 3rd clue.
It's funny because me and my sister were just talking about how Hurricane Harbor really needs a near vertical slide one day when we were there, about a day before they started the facebook thing. Look at that they read our minds.
Violets are red, roses are blue, but what is brown or tan and grows on a tall plant?
I'd much rather have this then some crappy coaster they would have given us anyway. There was a time when I thought they would do something about the severe lack of thrill rides in the dry park, but I've given up hope this year and decided I'd much rather spend my time at SFGAm in Hurricane Harbor because it really is that good.
Anyone visiting SFGAm I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HURRICANE HARBOR! Great Theming, great atmosphere, and really great slides, which are actually very thrilling.
I'm excited for May and I'm gonna miss HH so so much during Fright Fest :/

Coaster/thrill-wise, it seems like SFGAm has some of everything, but it was all built when it was cutting edge, so they are somewhat lacking now that the designs have been improved.

You don't only get a single pool with that $50, you get all of hurricane harbor which believe it or not is worth it because it's awesome, also not to mention you get the entire dry park too with that $50 which includes American Eagle <333 the only reason to go to the dry park

Althought my initinal guess of a Aqua Loop, off the puzzle was wrong, there's a chance as there's a near vertical slide.
Anyway, doesn't 130,000 sound pretty big? I mean, I understand that there's times I see expansion about 100,000, which isn't bad, but isn't 30,000 more feet added on is a bit big?

The area that will be "renovated" will be the space of an old Space Simulator that was originally removed for Chang, but it isn't that big at all. (Chang would have expanded WAY more into the parking lot)
So all in all, this is a sizable addition. But only 5 years ago they added 5, FIVE, new rides, one being a coaster. So, I say this isn't 50th anniversary material.

The water park's water playground, Skull Island is 100,000 square feet, so the new expansion is only a third larger than that water playground. That hardly seems "massive" to me.

And it did not open until late july when construction started over the winter... Attendance was low that year due to higher prices. And Six Flags let the park go etc all because they were going to sell it at the end of the year... Ok back on topic lol! I wouldn't say they can't afford it, it's more that there was a stupid plan in place, and they just didn't have enough time to get a great plan together for 2011. SFGAm has lots of great rumors for 2012, so I guess we'll see.

I think it was changed because having 2 stand-ups was a dumb idea, and while to us it would seem like Chang can be converted to a floorless very easily, I have seen several engineers post on other forums discussing why it cannot be converted due to heartlines. I don't really understand it all, I just know it would be very difficult.
As for the water park, it already reaches capacity fairly regularly, it only makes sense to expand it. Water park expansions are also much cheaper than theme park additions.

But you've also got to think. Advertising the expansion will bring in more people which will only cause the water park to reach capacity even quicker.
Actually, if you try this with ANY coaster simulator (NoLimits, RCT3, and such) the G's are nearly the same with the difference of just a few, because the floorless train seats are raised up quite a bit.

Thats a simulator! Not real life. Another reason why I call you a blind enthusiast with the only intent to add big thrills to SFGAm that has no idea how big these additions really are and how they are going to improve your park.
Think of it this way. SFGAms GP goes to the water park. They add water park additions more. Its a lot of families.
SFNE and TGE GP is more family than anyone else. So they add family additions.
GADv and Magic Mountain are more thrill seeking than anywhere so they add coasters more.
See where I am getting at? Families also equal more $$$$$$$$

There's plenty of space:
-While Whizzer was saved, that was almost 10 years ago. Rides can only be put on life support for so long.
-Iron Wolf, its days are numbered.
-Isn't there a space near County Fair that Splashwater Falls used to be on that is empty?
-Demon's days are numbered.
Those are 4 pretty good sized spaces. And they could always get creative with a coaster if they really did run out of space. Look at Tatsu, could you ever have imagined a coaster going in that location before it was built?
On a positive note, the Tantrum looks cool!

I believe it will happen still. They probably just got the ground work out of the way because I mean lets be honest it doesnt take forever to build a slide. On Wildebeest 90% of the construction time was ground work because the ride flew together pretty quick when the slide pieces arrived. Also just look at the addition Darien Lake did last year. It was pretty major and it didn't take very long either. Maybe 2 months.

You just contradicted yourself here. They built a whole entire park in two months. This is a medium sized expansion. Land clearing is all set, all the need to do is dig a hole, pour some foundation, put the piping in the ground along with some fiberglass, and put up the slides.

I have used a FlowRider model (not sure) from White Water at Kings Island a few years back and they were pretty fun. I wasnt ever successful at it but I had fun failing lol.

^Wow, is that you who's being the same person on the GAm Facebook page that keeps saying that. They'res multiple Facebook accounts that obviously look fake that keep saying that keeping girl's shirts on is a huge problem and all. Making a huge deal out of nothing and DEMANDING answers, literally demanding, thats why I capitalized it. Calling GAm terrible and bashing them.
David, can I seriously ask is that you?
And give the girl a surfer shirt, which is a tight shirt that won't fall off, to put over her bikini. BOOM. Problem solved. Any person would know that that's what they do when you ride flow riders, it's not a real issue. They'res flow riders all around the world, why is GAm any different?

Just saying, that happens to almost all girls with loose bikinis on flow riders.
AND NO THAT'S NOT ME. THEY ARE ANNOYING. I will say that I don't like Hurricane Harbor because my first visit was a bad one. Capacity on all rides was low, the wave pool was closed because someone decided to.. and the lazy river had a 40 minute wait. Not to mention it was dirty, and there was no where to sit. But those were the Kiaren days, so I have no idea how it is now..

Lol, lazy rivers having a wait... Only park I know that still requires a line for the lazy river is Hershey.

Darien Lake's Lazy River had a wait once in a while... On those really busy days there was probably a 30min wait.. I said nope maybe another time....

A personal rule of thumb for me:
When the park is so crowded that even the lazy rizer has a line, it's time to leave!

Well, now you understand why I don't think advertising the water park that much is important. Mentioning the free water park is okay, but focusing the entire park, and how it will perform around attendance really.. is stupid.

Its very important that you advertise the waterpark..

Close up pictures of the construction site and slide pieces taken on 1/23/11. The red, white, and black pieces are for the Tantrum, the other pieces are for the other 4 slides. The yellow pieces could be from any of the slides.

^Thanks for sharing!
So much for nothing being ordered...
Rumors are going around that Bug's Bunny National Park (Kid's Area) will be entirley removed in place of the new location for the Go Karts.
Somebody posted that on Facebook Thursday. That post has since been removed. hmmmm....
On the website they just list KIDZOPOLIS and Camp Cartoon but no Bug's Bunny National Park. http://www.sixflags.com/greatAmerica/rides/KidsRides.aspx
What do you think?

All of the BBNP rides have been missing from the website since November 2009. That said, the fact that the Facebook post was deleted and not responded to makes this seem all but confirmed true.

I have heard that GAm is loosing a kiddie area in 2011, so this will make sense. They could even retheme CC to a Looney Tunes area.
I love the Camp Cartoon theme it's original; nor other park has it!!

The logical thing to do would be to retheme Wiggles as a new Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes area since it currently has NO theme, but that isn't happening.

The logical thing to do is to just put the go karts in the SWF area.. but that might be pretty hard after what I'm hearing.
I heard SWF area for something in the future!

I'm hearing that the SWF area needs a lot of remediation.

The lower funnel for the Tantrum is assembled and appears to be in the final location. The other funnel is also fully assembled, but sitting in the parking lot.

Everyone, I'd like to let you in on a little secret I've got.
Six Flags Great America is considering a new show to replace Show Stoppin' in 2011, this show, is EPIC! as I was at a preview of it today. Needless to say, corporate needs to approve of it, as it's quite pricey.
I hope I can tell you more soon!
Fiesta Texas is going to replace Showstoppin also, maybe this is the same show!!

Doubtable, as this was an in-house production.

GAm update the site with more news on Riptide Bay!!
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd76/acquaz10/Screenshot2011-03-21at81226PM.png
Hang-10 at Surf Rider, race a friend on twin versions of Dive Bomber & Mega Wedgie, slide on a raft with your family on Wipeout or kick back and relax at Monsoon Lagoon. Riptide Bay is great for the whole family!
Don't forget to heck out High Tide — Riptide Bay's retail store featuring swimming apparel, gifts, souvenirs and more. And take a load off at 5 O'Clock Phil's — a tiki-inspired snack bar featuring an outdoor seating area, tropical drinks and snacks.

For those wondering, the entire Tantrum is in place, along with the super loops on the ground.
Six Flags Great America/Hurricane Harbor wrote:
In creating our new water park expansion, Riptide Bay at Hurricane Harbor, we were tasked with relocating our Go Karts to make space for the expansion. After careful consideration we made the decision to relocate the Go Karts to Bugs Bunny National Park in Yukon Territory. 4 smaller rides that were nearing the end of their lifespan were removed. Based upon the available locations for Go Karts, this decision would make the smallest impact on our product and offerings for our guests. Our new free water park expansion will offer several options for children and families, including an activity pool, 5 water slides, a surfing simulator and more. We are proud to continue to be one of the few parks in the country to provide two parks for one price. Our goal is to create a balance of rides and attractions for families and visitors of all ages to enjoy.
