Well, I just got back from what was supossed to be my trip to Freestyle Music Park in Myrtle Beach, SC. We left at noon and made the trip to the park. We pulled into the parking lot around 2, and not a single coaster was running due to inclament weather. There probably a few hundred cars in the lot, and it didn't seem that full. There weren't many cars coming and going, so me and my friend who I brought got out and walked around the parking lot for a few minutes. It looked like the weather was starting to clear, and my friend said "It's not that bad." Well, he must have jinxed us, because less than 5 seconds later, there was lightning and extremely loud thunder, and less than 30 seconds later, Time Machine, which was clearly visible a few seconds ago, was no longer visible through the rain.

We decided to wait it out until around 3, and the weather didn't look to be clearing anytime soon, so we decided to go find somewhere to eat to wait it out. We headed back to the park around 3:30, and decided to wait it out in the parking lot until just before 4, when the ticket deal expired, and make a decision on if we should enter the park then. It looked like it was clearing up around 3:50, so we headed up to the park entrance. We found every ticket booth closed, so we headed up to Guest Services to get our tickets.

We talked to the guy and he asked us what we wanted refunded. We said we wanted tickets, and his response was "why?" Now, did we just sound like complete idiots trying to get in? No rides were open at the time, but it looked like it was clearing out. He told us that there was no power in the park at the time, and Time Machine had been struck by lightning earlier in the day, and it would definately be closed the rest of the day. We decided not to go in, and they kindly refunded our parking. (They were also kindly refunding people for tickets, which was very nice considering there were huge signs all over saying No Refunds or Rainchecks.) We decided to leave and see what else we could find to do in Myrtle Beach.

If you want to hear about our 7 hour Myrtle Beach adventure, check back tomorrow, and I'll type it then, but otherwise, this concludes the Freestyle Music Park section. We are going to go back on Saturday, and give it another try, so look for a PTR of that on sunday.

Kingda Ka had other issues though. They assured us that Time Machine would be running tomorrow.

The weather cleared, and we probably would have had an awesome time if we went in the park and Time Machine was open, but it probably wouldn't have been much fun without Time Machine.

I don't quite believe that. KK got struck on May 10th or so. No problems back then. I went May 15th for a "school trip". Closed. It remained closed for a whole week and half or so after that. Opened for two weeks. June comes around and BOOM! The "incident" occured and it closed, again. There was a diffenerce in days between the strom and the major problem.

^yeah, I'm not sure what happened to Kingda Ka, but I'm pretty sure it was something besides lightning.

Yes, it probably is, but i'm saying that it was closed ofr about two weeks for the strike.

You would think coasters get struck by lightning all the time, and you rarely see coasters down for weeks at a time like Kingda Ka. I really think the lightning had little to do with it unless something with the launch mechanisms reacts weirdly to lightning. They have been doing so much work in the launch mechanism building that I'm pretty sure it had little to do with the lightning.

That is very possible. Yet, coasters that have got struck have got a little downtime, a day usually

It did get struck. they said it chooses when it wants to run correctly. But all the wiring was fried so of course they have put in a cheap fix to get it open, a full fix will be conducted this off-season.

Too bad the pavilion or fun park in myrtle beach was closed, those are the 2 i went to in 2004. FSM is built on the site of one of them.

It was built on the site of a mall that closed. There was another mall across the street from the park that was also abandoned. The whole area around the park feels really dead. It's kind of depressing.

The park looked really nice though when we went up to the entrance. Small, yeah, but nice.

both the mall and one of the parks.

Well I went back today (well, I guess it was yesterday now) and had a great day! We stayed from 30 minutes after opening until 30 minutes after closing, and never got bored like people said I would. I thought it was a great park, and I'm not sure why everyone hates it so much.

I'll post a full TR tomorrow if I finish my school work, along with my TR from SFA.
